I couldn't believe what I was hearing on the phone. They arrested Martin after they said they would try their best to help him out. How could that have happened?
"Roman, what are going to do?"
I hung up the phone and immediately called Lori to tell her what happened. "I just got a call. They're holding Martin. I need $100,000 for bail."
"I'm going to call Freddy and Edward, see what they can do," said Lori.
"Yes, okay."
I paced back down the hall through the living room. Roman followed me, looking concerned. "I can help," he said.
"No," I turned toward him, "this is a problem for my family."
"I'm part of your family," he insisted.
"He took a shot at you, tried to run you over. I can't ask you to post his bail."
"I wouldn't be doing it for him, I'd be doing it for you."
He followed me into the living room, wanting to talk some more, but, just then, the doorbell rang.
Lori rushed in, panicked.
"What are we going to do? He's our brother. We have to help him."
