Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

Twilight's POV

A few weeks had gone by roughly a month. I made or rather appointed the captain of my

group and lest we forget James was also my floor captain. He wasn't making things any easier for me, he was always hovering around every space I occupied and I really didn't know what his problem was. Willow had tried killing me in the last few weeks, twice at least.

I got more information on Aretia with the little book I stole from the library.

My week so far wasn't so bad but the first dragon day was coming up in the next 6 months. I had his 6 months to find out what I'd do if I don't make it.

"We have only 6 months before dragon day and it's be chosen or be killed." I told them.

"If you don't get a dragon you'll hope that you're strong enough to survive to the next dragon day."

Prita shrugged. There was no way anyone without dragon blood was going to get a dragon but they would be useful to the kingdom either way.

"I'm going to the sparring ground." Prita said

"Me too." Lysa followed.

"I'll be in the library." Nixon said.

"I think I'll follow you, I like the library by the way."

"Where do you think you are going to captain Twinkles?" I grew accustomed to that voice by now.

"Such a lovely day general Isla." I gave Nixon a go ahead to leave without me.

"You have an obsession with the library, I'm quite interested. Might you be looking for

something?" She asked.

"Well a girl can't be educated?" I replied to her. She started moving but I stood there.

"Aren't you coming?" She stopped without turning.

"Well you could as well say you just want me around." I smirked.

"I refuse to comply with what you are asking." She replied way too quickly.

"Nervous general?" I teased her.

"No, see you around twinkle toes." And she disappeared. I always wondered how she was that fast.

" Twilight." I turned around and I saw James.

"Captain James. What a pleasure seeing you here.""I see you're growing wings and having way too much fun in here, just a subtle reminder that you should be careful and always, I mean always watch your back." He stormed off.

I wondered why his pants are always twisted when he is around me.

The lines on my hand started running to my neck and I knew I was running out of time. I

needed to find an answer and I needed it quickly.

I went to the library and found Nixon. I felt I needed some kind of help so I decided to ask him.

"Hi Nixon."

"Hey Twilight, hope you didn't get in trouble with the general." It was far from trouble but he didn't need to know that.

"Nah, just a reminder about dragon day. Nixon I wanted to ask you yeah, please do you have any idea on the dragons, their origin and their affiliation with the kingdom?" I watched as he hesitated a bit before replying.

He brought out a large book.

"Over 18,000 years ago,the dragons roamed freely over the mountains and waters of what is now called Aretia. They had their own unique way of organizing themselves, no master, no rider, Until Arlan Gramble the second on his conquest tour found the land we currently occupy. Rumors have it that he wanted to own both the land and its dragons but the dragons proposed a deal instead." He flipped the pages until an illustration came into view of a man standing before a massive dragon, neither bowing.

"Rumor says Arlan wanted both the land and the beasts that ruled it. But the dragons offered a deal instead he would reign as king over men, and they would bond with humans to preserve their dominion, so long as neither side crossed the other."

Nixon's finger traced the faded ink as his voice dropped. "But men are men. Arlan gathered his armies and struck first. The dragons retaliated, but the first of their kind, Krutah, intervened before the battle began. As she struck him down, his soldiers pierced her heart. Their blood mingled that day and from it, the bond was born."

He looked up, eyes shadowed. "Krutah's mate, Ryaknorg, lives still. Never bonded again and never forgave mankind." He closed the book and returned his voice back to normal.

"Well that's all a young scholar like me would know." He returned the book back to the shelf.

"By the way, why are you interested?" He asked."I felt the need to know more about our kingdom and I'm doing some kind of research. I need to know why some people have dragons and others don't blah blah blah." He gave me a

suspicious look but didn't press more but in my defense I wasn't lying.

"What's that line on your neck by the way?" I paused, he paused "did you smuggle inscription inks?!?!" He whispered.

I contemplated lying but I genuinely didn't know why this was happening to me.

"I think I'm getting sick in some kind of way I really do not know." I rubbed my neck.

"I think you should see Lysa." He suggested.

"That will be later. It is almost time for supper, you need to be there before James and co

would have something to say." I left him. The knowledge I had just acquired made me

confirm that this kingdom was built on spilled blood and that story was different from what the children of Aretia grew up with. Meaning they've been lying to us this whole time and there's more lies within the walls and beyond the walls of Aretia.

I left to look for Prati and I found her clearing off things from the sparring mat.

"Hi girl." She waved as she walked towards me but she slowed down and took a long look at me.

"Umm Twilight, when did you get a tattoo?"
