"What do you think you are doing, my lady?"
Eve immediately blew out the candle and hurriedly shoved what she had been working on in the drawer.
But unfortunately for her, her fingers got jammed in the process.
Pulling her hands out sharply, she bit her lower lip to restrain herself from screaming out loud.
It was in the middle of the night…
Agnes opened the door even wider and stepped into the now-dark room.
"When I see you sneaking around like this, I just know that you are doing something that society would not approve of."
She could hear the door click shut, then Agnes's footsteps as she made her way to the table where she sat. Then there was a clicking sound before the candle she had put out just a few seconds ago came flickering to life.
She looked down at her now-pink fingers to avoid looking at Agnes.
"What I think society would not approve of is a maid who sneaks into her lady's bedroom without knocking and talks to her in such a condescending tone."
