Everetta froze, every part of her unwilling to do her bidding. Breathing suddenly wasn't as simple as it always had been…
"Why?" She finally found her voice.
He was still behind her, a dark, foreboding presence.
"Not in front of my mother."
She looked down at the grave. "If I cannot be honest with her, then I don't think she would like me very much."
Then she turned to leave.
He reached out and grabbed her wrist.
"I don't think either of us should be deciding who she liked and who she did not for whatever reasons."
She glanced over her shoulder at him.
"I'll leave you to talk to her." She said softly.
His hand on her wrist fell away immediately.
She left.
If she hadn't been so taken with him, they would have been friends. And if they had been friends, she would have at least been able to comfort him.
But every time they met, it always felt like they were strangers all over again - just strangers with a heated history.
