Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Arrival and Betrayal

The plane touched down with a jolt, and Zara gripped the armrest so tightly her knuckles turned white. Outside, the foreign city stretched endlessly — unfamiliar streets, towering buildings, and the hum of a thousand lives she didn't know.

She had hoped the danger ended at the airport. She had hoped that leaving her homeland meant leaving the fire, the pursuers, the Ashes… behind.

She was wrong.

The stranger led her through customs and into a waiting vehicle, sleek and black, but something felt off. The driver's eyes were too sharp, the grip on the wheel too tense.

"They said they'd be here," the stranger muttered. "Your contact… they promised safety."

Hours passed as they weaved through the city streets. Zara tried to make sense of the letter again, the cryptic warnings gnawing at her. "Trust no one… they are closer than you think… the Ashes will rise…"

Finally, they arrived at a tall, shadowed building. Zara's contact should have been waiting, but the lobby was empty. A chill ran down her spine.

"Something's wrong," she whispered.

Before the stranger could respond, the elevator dinged, and Zara felt a presence behind her. A hand clamped over her mouth, strong and unyielding. She struggled, but the force was overwhelming.

The stranger shouted, lunging forward, but another figure appeared — blocking the way. Zara's heart pounded as the realization hit her: she had been led straight into a trap.

Eyes cold and calculating stared at her from the shadows. Familiar eyes. Someone she had trusted, someone she hadn't expected to betray her.

"Welcome to your new reality, Zara," the voice said, calm but deadly.

And then everything went black.
