Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Deeper in the Shadows

Zara's boots echoed against cold stone floors as she was led deeper into the compound. The walls were high, topped with razor wire, and every corridor seemed to stretch into darkness. She counted every step, memorizing the turns and patterns. Every detail could be useful later — if she lived long enough to escape.

Her captors didn't speak much. Their silence was more intimidating than words, a constant reminder that she was at their mercy.

At the heart of the compound, a room unlike any other caught her attention. Maps, documents, and strange devices were spread across tables. Screens flickered with data she didn't understand — numbers, locations, faces. Her pulse quickened.

One of the captors spoke softly to another. "The Ashes are ready. When she's moved tomorrow, everything will begin."

Zara froze. The Ashes… ready? Whatever it was, it wasn't just a secret anymore — it was active, alive, and dangerous.

She scanned the room and noticed another figure sitting quietly in the corner. A prisoner, their hands shackled like hers. Their eyes met hers briefly, a spark of recognition — or perhaps solidarity.

When the captors left, the prisoner whispered, "You don't know the half of it, do you? The Ashes… it's bigger than anyone suspects. And they'll use you to activate it."

Zara swallowed hard. She had known she was in trouble, but now the scale of the threat hit her like a punch.

Her mind raced. Escape seemed impossible, but staying was certain death. She had to find a way out — and quickly.

Footsteps approached from the corridor. Zara's heart thundered. She ducked behind a stack of crates, barely breathing. Whoever was coming might change everything.

The door swung open, and a familiar shadow fell across the room. Someone she had trusted… someone who knew the letter…

Zara's chest tightened. She knew one thing: the real danger had only just begun.
