The 'back' of the nursery as it turned out was just the lot behind the building. My oversized jacket snagged on the rough brick wall as I squeezed past the boxes littering the alley leading to it.
The voices at the end of the alley grew louder as I slowly inched through the clutter. Any thoughts of morality or conflicted feelings were erased from my mind. All that was left in their wake was a raw, aching need to know more.
I held myself low to avoid drawing suspicion to myself as I breached the exit of the alley. Luckily, a row of evergreen shrubs and a trellis filled with twisting vines kept me hidden. I carefully knelt behind one of the white cement planters holding the bushes.
My eyes were level with the shrubs' roots, giving me a less obscured view of the scene on the other side.
