CHAPTER 83 ROMAN'S BLADE 2
The forest fell deathly silent.
One Minotaur lay split cleanly in half.
Another remained on one knee, its body still twitching from the lightning Roman had driven into it.
Only one stood untouched.
The surviving Minotaur stared at its fallen companion.
For the first time...
Fear crept into its glowing eyes.
Roman rose from his kneeling stance.
The crimson katana rested loosely in his right hand.
Its deep red blade gave off a low hum, thin arcs of scarlet lightning occasionally crawling along its edge before fading into the air.
He spoke quietly.
"Come get me"
The last standing Minotaur answered with a furious roar.
ROOOOAAARRR!!
Instead of charging recklessly, it tightened its grip on the remaining axe and lowered its center of gravity.
It had learned.
Roman was faster.
Stronger.
Its only chance was to wait.
Sir Brock watched from the distance
"It's adapting."
Then the Minotaur moved.
Not toward Roman...
Around him.
It circled with surprising agility for a creature its size, forcing Roman to constantly adjust his footing.
Suddenly...
It hurled its double-sided axe.
The weapon spun through the air like a giant saw blade.
Roman tilted his head.
The axe missed him by centimeters..
Only for the Minotaur to burst from behind it.
It had used the spinning weapon to hide its charge.
Its scaled fist crashed toward Roman's chest.
BOOM!
Roman crossed the flat of his katana in front of him.
The impact blasted him backward, his boots carving deep trenches through the earth.
Golden leaves exploded into the air.
The students gasped.
"He blocked that?!"
Roman looked down.
The force had actually pushed him back several meters.
A faint smile returned.
The Minotaur didn't give him time to recover.
It ripped a massive tree from the ground and swung it like a club.
Roman stepped inside the swing.
One precise slash.
SHHK!
The tree split into dozens of pieces before it reached him.
The Minotaur followed with another punch.
Roman ducked beneath it.
His katana flashed once.
A crimson arc sliced through the creature's forearm.
The severed arm hit the ground with a heavy thud.
The Minotaur roared in agony and lashed out with its remaining fist.
Roman sidestepped effortlessly.
Another flash.
The second arm fell.
Still the monster refused to kneel.
With a deafening roar, it charged anyway, leading with its horns.
Roman closed his eyes for a brief instant.
The world around him seemed to slow.
Channeling more ki into his senses.
He could hear every heartbeat.
Every falling leaf.
Every crackle of spirit energy.
When he opened his eyes again...
Scarlet lightning erupted across the length of his blade.
He took one step.
Then another.
The Minotaur was almost upon him.
At the final instant.....
Roman vanished.
A streak of crimson crossed the battlefield.
No one saw the swing.
Only the aftermath.
Roman stood several meters behind the charging beast, his back to it.
The katana slowly resting on his shoulder.
The Minotaur took three more steps.
Then stopped.
Thin crimson lines appeared across its body
Its black scales separated piece by piece.
Its enormous frame collapsed into countless cleanly cut sections that crashed to the forest floor, shaking the earth beneath them.
Silence returned.
Only the crackling of fading lightning remained.
Roman exhaled slowly.
The crimson aura surrounding him dissolved into glowing particles that drifted away on the breeze.
Behind him, the last Minotaur, the one he had crippled earlier with lightning, forced itself upright with a pained growl.
Its muscles convulsed as it raised its axe one final time.
The students shouted.
"Roman!"
"It's behind you!"
Roman didn't turn.
He simply lifted two fingers over his shoulder.
A tiny spark danced between them.
"I don't forget my preys"
He snapped his fingers.
CRACK.
The lightning he had planted inside the Minotaur earlier awakened.
Scarlet veins of energy burst through the cracks in its scales.
The beast froze.
Its body trembled violently.
Then an eruption of red lightning exploded from within, tearing through every wound Roman had already created.
The Minotaur collapsed face-first with a thunderous impact.
This time...
It did not move again.
The battlefield was over.
Three higher-level Minotaurs.
Defeated in only a few exchanges.
Roman looked around at the sea of fallen beasts scattered across the yellow forest.
"I haven't go all out in awhile"
He laughed.
Everyone was left stunned.
