Amara responded without thinking. "I can give you a massage." But the moment she heard herself say it, she regretted it.
She had spent days telling herself she needed to create distance between them, yet the moment he mentioned being uncomfortable, her instinct was to offer to help.
She silently chastised herself. 'I should be pulling away from him, not finding more reasons to stay close.'
She had to prepare herself for the future she believed was coming. If Alexander truly had a mate, then she needed to begin accepting that her place beside him would eventually change.
She did not want to remain so emotionally attached that she would be unable to endure it when that happened.
Alexander, however, had already accepted her offer. "Thank you in advance."
She pressed her lips together, no longer having any way of taking the offer back without making her behaviour even more suspicious.
"Of course," she said quietly.
Seven minutes later, they finished their meal.
