Chapter 12 - The Color That Didn’t Wash Away

The town of Madhuban was preparing for the joyful festival of Holi. Shops were full of bright powders, children were buying water guns, and the sweet smell of Gujiya filled the streets. Everywhere people were laughing and getting ready for the big day.

But in one small house at the end of the lane lived a boy named Neel who didn't feel excited at all.

Neel used to love Holi. Every year he and his best friend Arjun would wake up early, fill buckets with colored water, and run through the neighborhood playing pranks on everyone.

But this year Arjun had moved to another city because his father got a new job. Since then, Neel felt lonely.

The night before Holi, Neel looked at the small packet of colors lying on his table. He sighed and said to his mother, "I don't feel like playing tomorrow."

His mother smiled gently. "Festivals are not only about playing with one person. Sometimes they bring new surprises."

Neel wasn't convinced, but he nodded quietly.

The next morning the whole town woke up to loud music and cheerful shouts of "Happy Holi!" Colorful powder filled the air like clouds of rainbows.

Neel stepped outside slowly. He watched the other children laughing and running with their friends.

Suddenly someone tapped his shoulder.

When Neel turned around, he saw a small boy standing behind him. The boy looked nervous but smiled shyly.

"Hi," he said. "My name is Kabir. I just moved here yesterday."

Neel was surprised. "Yesterday? That's very close to Holi!"

Kabir nodded. "I don't know anyone here."

For a moment both boys stood silently.

Then Neel remembered how lonely he had been feeling.

He picked up a little blue gulal and said, "Well… now you know me."

Before Kabir could react, Neel gently placed the color on his cheek.

Kabir laughed and quickly threw a handful of yellow color at Neel.

Within seconds both of them were running through the street, chasing each other with colors and laughing loudly.

Soon other children joined them, and the entire lane turned into a colorful battlefield.

Hours later, when they were tired and completely covered in colors, the boys sat on the steps of Neel's house.

Kabir smiled and said, "This is the best first day in a new city."

Neel looked at his colorful hands and smiled too.

That evening Neel realized something important.

Some colors fade after a bath.

Some colors disappear with time.

But the color of friendship never washes away.

And that Holi, Neel didn't feel lonely anymore.

🌈 Message: Sometimes life replaces one color with another, but the new color can be just as beautiful.
