Chapter 27 - Confused

I sighed, taking my seat beside Selena, who looked a bit confused.

"What?" I asked.

"When did you regain your mana?" she asked, her expression as though something was wrong.

"Yesterday. Why?" I replied, unsure of the basis for her bewilderment.

'Why does she seem so surprised?'

"You regained your mana yesterday?" she asked, gripping my arm tightly, her eyes widening in realization.

"Yes, but why are you so shocked? How did you even know about my mana situation?" I asked, she didn't even bother giving a reply, lost in her own thoughts.

Well, whatever.

She wasn't the only one looking at me strangely though. I could see Rizel, what the fuck's she smiling at, she's even waving, can't she see the teacher staring at her? Tsk. I could also see the visible shock on Allen's face, it was probably too shocking a sight for him, my lack of mana isn't really a secret to him or most top nobles.

Him aside, his bastard loyal dog Eric was gazing at me with squinted eyes. I need to find a way to cripple that guy, at least enough to keep him bedridden for the rest of this semester, since I plan to leave the academy before the second. There's really no reason for me to be here anymore. The only reason I even came in the first place was because I had a gut feeling Renay might actually be a heroine, the thought of the protagonist claiming her made my blood boil.

But now I don't feel that intense emotion anymore. If anything I just want to find a quiet place and rest for a few years, somewhere far from all these problems, far from all these people, a place where I can forget about my fate as the villain.

Besides my so-called brother and that dog Eric, there was also Rizel, then Ariana, who looked like she'd seen a ghost. But the person with the worst expression was…

…her.

Eloisa.

I sighed, trying to calm my raging emotions.

I may not feel that intense obsession for Renay anymore, but that doesn't mean I won't kill Eloisa for what she did. I will. In the most painful, agonizing way possible.

"Everyone, eyes here," I heard, then looked at the teacher, Melina, who was now holding up a transparent spherical crystal orb. 'The affinity tester,' I recognized it from the novel's description, it was used to help one identify the element, or in special cases, elements, a person had the most affinity with.

Not really my concern though, since I don't plan on taking sorcery as a course, magic swordsmanship either. What I'm taking are two other courses, ones you can actually choose if you aren't going for the major courses like those two. Necromancy and Alchemy.

Most students tend to shy away from alchemy, probably for the same reason people shy away from medicine back on Earth. It requires extensive knowledge, it isn't flashy. That's why the academy always allows students to pick alchemy alongside another lesser course, opening it up to anyone willing.

"Though everyone is able to use any affinity through spells, there are specific ones we are all more attuned with. Take for example someone with a bloodline tied to fire, and another with a bloodline tied to water, if both decided to cast a fire-based spell, who do you think would have the upper hand?" she asked, it was rhetorical so she didn't really expect an answer. "At the start of your sorcery class, you'll each be given a chance to use one of these," she held the orb up slightly, "through which you'll identify the affinity to focus your energy on," she said, then the bell rang.

"That will be all for today," she said, stood up, began walking out.

Golden blonde hair and crimson eyes, a slender face, curvaceous body, a domineering presence. Melina Frostberg, one of the heroines of the game.
