Chapter 33 - Jackpot

My sword ignited into purple flames, and I swung it directly at the tree with full force. At this point I was frustrated and annoyed beyond words. I just wasted so many points to get here, faced a life-threatening mana beast, but on getting to the objective itself, I then realized it wasn't even going to work out in the first place.

Swhoook!

My sword sailed freely through the air but the moment it came in contact with the wood from the tree some sort of mana coated the tree itself and the sword cracked instead.

Wait.

What?

Tsk.

I clicked my tongue.

It seems the Fairy bitch heard me, is she trying to make a statement with this or something?

Does she think I can't cut this shit down?

Now pissed even more than I was before I tried to cut the tree, I just backed a couple distance and stretched my hand forward. I didn't want to do this because one, I have a small manapool, in other words my mana capacity is so low there is only a number of things I could do before it runs out. That was part reason I didn't try shooting direct fireballs at that crenox previously.

What if it dodged the attack, then wouldn't that potentially mean I just wasted a huge chunk out of my already laughable mana? Now if that happens a couple more times then THAT WOULD BE IT, completely out of mana, and such a situation when facing such a beast isn't ideal as it would spell death instantly.

Anyway, the tree was going nowhere so there was no way I would be wasting any mana with these attacks.

"Elemental magic," I muttered and felt that familiar stir within me, "Flames of Ephynia." I poured as much mana as I could muster for one attack but it was no different from how it was back in class. The size of a clenched fist.

Tsk.

This is really annoying.

Puuuuuuuuum!

It shot forward and struck the tree point blank.

BOOOOOOOOM!

Woah.

That's…

… that's some firepower.

I couldn't help but admit after getting pushed back from the force of the explosion.

Alright.

Let's see what happened.

I watched as the smoke cleared off but what awaited me made me frown in annoyance.

"Not a scratch," I noticed.

But the trees besides it all snapped in two, from the sheer force of it, yet the tree which received the full brunt of the attack remained unshattered? This only means I am right after all, and it seems the Fairy is desperately trying to protect the tree. But let's see how much longer she would be able to do that. According to the novel, just keeping this illusion alone has already drained a lot of her mana in the process weakening her, as she consistently has to supply mana to keep the illusion going. So let's see who is going to run out of mana first, me… or her.

I raised my hand but this time I didn't say the spell out loud, no, I tried to say it internally to test out a theory and to my greatest shock, a fireball actually appeared above my outstretched hand. I smiled, then shot that one forward and just at the same moment I created another and another and another then shot the three forward; I then created another again, not waiting for the smoke to clear.

I must take down this tree.

Even if that's all I achieve today.

Not only will I fall this tree, but I will also burn it down. With the unbelievable luck Lucas has, there is no telling what will happen when he does pass by here tomorrow. There is a chance the Fairy might still emerge from the split-in-half tree, and gift it to him just before dying.

Nah.

I already have my plate full with all the enemies I have amassed.

Given my status as a Villain, there is no telling when I will have a clash with Lucas, and given how much weaker I am compared to the novel, where Lorelle actually merged with the blessing, I might not survive it if we do fight.

So as much as I can, I have to weaken him.

I will have to stop any chances of him getting any relic that would make the already overpowered idiot more overpowered, at least till the end of the semester. I am not some foolish villain who would sit around and play friend with him to see if I can avoid my fate, no, not even if fate got down on its knees and begged me to; and if fate decides to fuck with me and prove how much of a bitch it is by not letting me steal the relics, then I will just burn them all like I will burn this tree.

If I can't have it, then no one will, especially not my enemy.

"WAIT! Please!" I heard the moment I shot out more fireballs and manifested a few more.

"Jackpot."
