Chapter 88 - Ch 88: Talk with Gojo

We often walk the path we avoid the most, and I am experiencing just that. My plan for Yuji would have only started at the Shinobu Incident; otherwise, I planned to keep minimum contact with Yuji as a senior only.

I don't want to mess up the timeline more than I already have, as it would lead to an outcome I can't foresee. After the night parade incident, I got the direct confirmation that Kanjaku is someone who will change the whole plan if he finds even one pedal without his knowledge.

Knowing that, I need to move with caution. Also, I don't want what happened to Maki to repeat again; God, I am still searching for a way to undo it. Jogo's flame seared through Maki's soul, making the RCT think that that scar was part of her to begin with.

So knowing the danger, I don't want to throw a stone and disturb the tranquility that Geto has been maintaining till now, which I know will explode in the coming months or year.

With that in mind, I decided to keep a distance from Yuji and other first years, as they will for the next few months be at the jaw of sharks, which Geto is playing to temper Yuji into the perfect vessel. And if I am present with them, I will mess it up because I won't be able to close my eyes if there is any innocent life present; I would just nuke the whole thing and walk out of it.

While it is hypocritical for me to say so, in this life, I at least wanted to help others with the best of my ability, which would indirectly make me into those foolish justice-driven idiots that only look at the present, not the future.

I forgot how much I hated those idiots, but the irony is, I became one. I know that I can't save everyone, but if someone in front of my eyes needed help, whatever the situation is, I will help whether it fucks up the future or not, because I don't want to have the blood of the innocent in this lifetime. Of course, if it were evil, I wouldn't mind plunging my hands into that. I am filthy, so taking other filth wouldn't bring much change at all.

So back to the topic of me avoiding Yuji: "So you want me to go and get the other first-years with Yuji and Megumi."

"Yes," Gojo replied as he stirred his coffee with a spoon.

"You are the one who explicitly took on the burden of responsibility for looking after Yuji and Megumi, so why on earth am I being dragged into this mess? You are their official mentor and teacher, whereas I am nothing more than a fellow student navigating the same halls; it would be incredibly awkward, not to mention completely inappropriate, for me to step in and try to supervise them when I have no business doing so, Gojo-sensei," I said with a straight face, trying to look like a model student faced with injustice from his teacher.

"Hey, don't get formal with me. And you calling me "sensei" is making my skin crawl. And what with 'a fellow student navigating the same halls,' you haven't even heard a single lecture after you joined the school. You're just a NEET freeloading here." Gojo looked like he had heard the worst joke in his life as he said the word, which insulted me.

"I am not a NEET. And the reason I didn't join the lecture is because my absence will prove more resources will be provided to Maki, Panda and Inumaki. I am sacrificing my portion so they can get a better atmosphere to become great."

"Yeh." Gojo made a face at me, suggesting that he was cringing at my line; I fledged my own embarrassment behind my indifferent face. "Anyway, what is the reason?" I wanted to know the real reason for his decision.

Gojo let out a sigh and placed his coffee on the table. "Well, it's just a gut feeling. I think it would be good for you to supervise them since you are an RCT that works on others; if something were to happen, then you could immediately take action, and you also have strength that can suppress Sukuna if necessary."

I raised my eyebrows at him. "What do you mean, 'something were to happen'?"

"I said it's just a gut feeling. I think the future is not going to be kind to them. While I am physically strong and have an RCT for myself, I can't use that on him, while you have that advantage. And well...nothing." He was about to say something but stopped and shook his head.

I have to say, Gojo is sharp. Previously, when the war was over, I told Gojo about what happened to Geto. If Kanjaku were planning to use prison on him, I would need to shoot that plan. What way is there to disrupt that other than telling the victim directly? May connecting all that, he came to a conclusion on his own; either he was spot on about Yuji or other futures were not kind to them.

Since my plan for Yuji was flexible, I nodded at Gojo. "Alright. But you owe me a favor."
