Chapter 1 - Chapter 2: Initiate!

Of course Jiang Cheng recognized himself.

He knew his own body better than anyone. The face on the screen looked like someone had used him as a reference model and then polished every angle with obsessive care—no character-creation system in the world could have produced something this lifelike.

And it wasn't just the face.

The avatar's build was identical to his as well—completely naked, every detail visible, lean and solid, clearly the product of consistent training.

It was him.

An exact copy.

Jiang Cheng knew some games marketed "upload your face to generate your character" as a gimmick, but he hadn't uploaded anything. He rarely took photos, there wouldn't be any pictures of him on his computer, and he was certain this monitor didn't have a camera.

A normal person, faced with something like this, might not panic—but they'd at least freeze for a moment.

Jiang Cheng wasn't normal.

If someone handed him a prompt that said Do you want to know the true meaning of life? Yes/No, he'd click Yes without hesitation.

"This is interesting."

He gave a light chuckle and began examining the new interface.

Beneath the in-game "Jiang Cheng," fresh text appeared.

[Please enter character name]

After a brief thought, considering how unusual this game already was, Jiang Cheng decided not to use some self-deceiving name like "Cheng Jiang." Instead, he typed a name he'd never used before.

[Jiang Feng]

The moment he entered it, the screen shifted.

[Character creation successful]

[Game officially begins]

[Welcome to Abyss Frontier]

That holy white door appeared again. It cracked open slightly, and an endless flood of white light poured out, bleaching the entire screen into a blank glare.

Abyss Frontier—initiate!

The flash-bang brightness made Jiang Cheng squint. When he opened his eyes again, the display had settled into a normal gameplay view.

Centered on the screen was the character he'd just created—Jiang Feng—still stark naked. He stood inside an empty room. Four walls. Nothing else.

Turn the camera in a full circle, and you could end up staring your own avatar in the eyes.

"…Wait. That's it?"

Jiang Cheng clicked his tongue, suddenly feeling like he'd rated this game too highly.

That whole process was just: make a face, type a name, done?

Where were the classes? The specializations? The stat points? The starter gear?

He hadn't even made the face himself—so basically he'd only named the character?

Still, given how "special" the face situation was, Jiang Cheng quickly switched into testing mode and began familiarizing himself with the controls.

Fortunately, after entering the game, he could bring up a menu. It listed the keybindings, and he even checked specifically—there was a Log Out button.

"Walk, run, left-hand attack, right-hand attack, charged attack, roll… Mm. Not sure if there's shooting. I'll stick with mouse and keyboard for now."

During that, he also found Jiang Feng's status panel:

[Jiang Feng]

[Race: Human]

[Level: 1]

[Skills: None]

[Equipment: None]

[Rating: None]

Simple to the point of austerity. No fancy attribute spread, no decorative nonsense.

After he'd gotten comfortable with the controls, Jiang Cheng was back to staring at himself again.

Because he'd run into a problem.

What, exactly, was the gameplay?

No tutorial—fine. He was used to that. No quest marker—also fine. He'd played games like that before.

But the entire "map" being one completely empty room?

What was he supposed to do here?

Was this some revolutionary, genre-defining face-creation simulator?

Right then, a plain wooden door suddenly materialized on the wall to the left.

[New instance generated]

[Please check]

Finally—something he could actually fight.

Jiang Cheng's spirits lifted. He guided the character over to the door, and details about the instance surfaced.

[Biohazard Hospital]

[Difficulty: 1]

[Game Type: Third-person real-time RPG]

[Description: A hospital—a sacred place that has carried countless sincere prayers—has now become a hell on earth. A virus from another world has swept through its wards. Doctors who once healed the sick have become carriers of the infection. Can you save this hospital from the virus?]

Jiang Cheng read the description carefully, and at last understood how the game worked.

"Oh. So it's an infinite-stream instance crawler. That explains why the hub is empty."

"And the first instance is basically Resident Evil?"

He'd cleared every Resident Evil title, but he wasn't sure whether he could clear this instance with the character he currently had.

In most games, the protagonists were "ordinary" on paper but performed like superheroes. But if this Jiang Feng really was Jiang Cheng…

Then this was just a slightly stronger-than-average human.

Could a normal guy clear Resident Evil?

If he couldn't, he'd still have to try.

If you couldn't even beat the beginner instance, the game was hard-stuck from the starting line.

And besides—if the numbers weren't there, he could compensate with execution.

He lingered on the instance screen and discovered optional settings: Blur Face, Blur Recognition.

Thinking about the fact that this avatar was naked and looked exactly like him, he checked the boxes without hesitation.

And if this game truly was "special," then a little concealment couldn't hurt.

Prepared, Jiang Cheng chose Enter Instance.

The wooden door slowly swung open.

His character stepped through.

[Entered instance: Biohazard Hospital]

[Generating main quest…]

[Main quest generated]

[Current main quest: Eliminate the pathogen core and save the hospital]

A new scene formed on screen.

The naked character stood in an empty hospital ward, expression flat and unreadable.

"This is kind of insane…"

The visuals were so real that Jiang Cheng genuinely couldn't tell where reality ended and the game began. For a second, he thought he could smell his graphics card burning.

But he didn't waste time. He swept the room with the camera, then immediately started looting.

A qualified player knows the fundamentals:

Search every cabinet. Open every drawer. Take everything you might possibly need.

Before long, Jiang Cheng found a set of patient clothes in a wardrobe.

[Patient Gown]

[Type: Clothing]

[Quality: Common]

[Description: A loose set of blue-and-white striped clothes. Anyone wearing it holds the power to run rampant in this hospital—meaning you can curse out whoever you want.]

He equipped it.

On screen, the character methodically put the gown on—every motion so detailed it looked like someone actually dressing themselves.

Jiang Cheng's suspicion deepened.

And a completely unrelated thought floated into his mind:

If I find a full suit of armor later… is it going to take ten minutes to put on?
