Alex's eyes narrowed, his mind racing. Ahmed had played his hand, and it was a strong one. He needed time to think, to come up with a plan.
"Let's hear the proof," Alex said, his voice calm.
Ahmed smiled, pulling out a small device. "This is a recording of a conversation between you and a... let's say, a business associate. A conversation that could be interpreted as... shady."
The room fell silent as Ahmed played the recording. Alex's eyes widened as he listened to his own voice, discussing a deal that could be seen as unethical.
Victor's face was red with anger, and Aisha looked like she'd been punched in the gut. Ahmed's smile grew wider, his eyes glining with triumph.
"What do you want, Ahmed?" Alex asked, his voice low and menacing.
"I want a seat on the board, and control over the new tech, " Ahmed repeated. "And I want it now."
Alex leaned back in his chair, his eyes locked onto Ahmed's. "I'll give you a seat on the board, but you won't get control over the tech. And you'll have to prove your worth to the team." Ahmed's eyes narrowed, his smile faltering. "I was thinking more along the lines of 50% control over the tech."
Alex shook his head. "20%, and that's my final offer."Ahmed's face twisted with anger, but he knew he was in a corner. He nodded, his voice tight with rage. "Deal."
The room was silent as Alex and Ahmed shook hands, sealing the deal. But as they did, Victor's phone buzzed, and he stepped outside to answer it.
"Alex, it's the police," Victor said, his voice low and urgent. "They've found something. Something big."
