Chapter 3 - Spin to Win

(A/N: Unfortunately, this chapter has nothing to do with gambling)

"Nothing over here!" Itadori yelled out to the others.

"Nothing here!" Sasaki yelled.

The four clubmates had split up in teams of two to cover the abandoned graveyard.

Sasaki and Iguchi were searching through the left side of the of the graveyard and Matteo and Itadori were on right side duty.

"So Matteo," Itadori. said, "Where are you from?" he asked while looking around their slice of the graveyard.

"Italy, I told you, didn't I?" Matteo asked.

"Yeah but-"

"Oh good, almost thought I forgot," Matteo said.

"You, you don't remember telling me where you're from?" Yuji asked confused.

"Sorry, my mind's been everywhere lately," Matteo replied.

"You told me in class like a few hours ago," Itadori told him.

"Hold on, have you been possessed yet?" Matteo asked.

"Possessed?" Itadori exclaimed.

"No that hasn't happened yet," Matteo mumbled, "Sorry Yuji, just ignore me if I'm not making sense," he asked.

"Why do you call me Yuji?" Itadori asked genuinely curious.

"It's your name?" Matteo responded, crouching down to look at a grave.

"It's my first name," Itadori said in response.

"That's why I'm calling you Yuji?" Matteo replied.

For a moment Itadori and Matteo sat in silence.

"Ohhhhh," Matteo realized, "People in Japan usally call people by their family names," he said.

"You didn't know?" Yuji asked.

"Sorry, like I said, I moved to Japan very recently," Matteo explained, "Sorry if I made you uncomfortable," he apologized.

"It's all fine," Itadori replied with a smile.

Suddenly, Matteo's hand snapped forward in front of Itadori.

"Matteo?" Yuji asked.

"Thought I saw a bug," Matteo explained.

However, what Itadori couldn't see what Matteo could, was the bug like curse that Matteo held in his hand.

'Me being here must have changed something to put Itadori in danger' Matteo thought.

"Can you do me a favor and check over there for me?" Matteo asked while pointing with his free hand.

"Sure," Itadori answered before running of in the direction that Matteo pointed.

"What do I do with you," Matteo muttered.

Without a cursed object to use or the ability to use his cursed energy, Matteo had no way to exercise the curse he held in his hand.

What was annoying to Matteo was the fact that the curse was constantly trying to move around even while being trapped in Matteo's hand.

It was a small bug like curse with a sharp nose and small wings. Matteo would guess that it was lower than grade four considering he could hold it with normal hands.

"Stop moving around you," Matteo said while increasing his grip strength.

Unfortunately, due to the weakness of the curse, the bug burst in Matteo's hand.

'Shit' Matteo mentally cursed.

Due to Matteo's grasp not containing any cursed energy, the curse quickly reformed and flew away.

"Shit!" Matteo cursed as he started to get up and chase the curse.

The curse flew in a straight line away from Matteo. Straight to where Sasaki and Iguchi were at.

"Come here little curse," Matteo said as he chased the curse.

For every step that Matteo took towards the curse, the curse flew twice as far.

'How do I stop this thing?' Matteo asked himself.

As he ran, Matteo closed his eyes. He looked deep into himself to try and find his cursed technique.

He felt something, on his foot. It was a rock he didn't see because his eyes were closed.

Matteo fell face first into the dirt of the graveyard, kicking up some of it in the process.

"I got to stop that thing!" Matteo said beginning to get up.

However, as Matteo got up, he saw the bug had turned around and was now turning back to attack him.

"I get it," Matteo said, "You don't like us messing up your home am I right?" he asked.

The curse charged forward to Matteo, not able to understand what Matteo was saying.

Before the curse could land a solid strike on Matteo, he ducked down and dodged the curse.

'It may be weak, but this curses speed is real' Matteo thought as he kept his eyes on the bug like curse.

"Hey Matteo!" Itadori called out to Matteo.

"Did you find anything?" Matteo quickly asked.

'I was hoping he would find something that has cursed energy' Matteo thought, 'Well plan B'

"Hey Itadori, can you do me one more favor?" Matteo asked, "Can you tell Sasaki and Iguchi I might be a bit late?" he said.

"Fine, but why will be you be late?" Itadori asked.

"Just doing something important," Matteo replied.

"Well, ok," Itadori said before starting running over to where the other two were.

"Nice kid, shame what happens to him," Matteo said to himself.

"What?" Itadori said, stopping.

"I just know a guy who's going to go through a hard time," Matteo explains.

"Tell him I hope he'll feel better," Itadori told Matteo before running off.

"I will," Matteo replied with a chuckle.

Though as Itadori walked away, Matteo realized that he had lost track of the bug like curse.

Looking around, Matteo searched for the curse, before finding it chasing Itadori.

'He must have done something the graveyard that harmed it more than me!' Matteo realized.

Quickly, Matteo looked for something he could do that would ruin the graveyard. As he looked, his eyes eventually landed on a tombstone.

"I'm going to hell for this," Matteo mumbled as he ran towards the tombstone.

When Matteo got close, he cocked his foot back and slammed it into the tombstone.

"Razel frazel hazel shit," Matteo cursed as he fell onto the ground while holding his foot, "Hope its not broken," he wished.

The tombstone that Matteo kick fell onto the ground, as soon as it hit the ground the curse turned around once more and ran towards Matteo.

As the curse got close to Matteo, Matteo picked up his hand and slapped the curse out of the sky.

Of course, the curse, being a curse, quickly regenerated any damage that Matteo's smack caused.

Though before the curse could get up into the sky, Matteo leaped at it and pushed it into the ground with one hand.

Matteo then quickly grabbed the sharp nose of the curse and snapped it off, and before the piece in his hand could disappear, Matteo shoved the spike into the curse.

And as he did, the curse dissipated.

'Only something with cursed energy can exercise a curse, and curses are made of cursed energy' Matteo thought to himself, 'Glad that worked'

Standing back up and dusting the pieces of dirt off of his shirt, Matteo began to walk to where the other three were.

Matteo wasn't hurt physically, except for his big toe, but the curse did drain him mentally. He was hopping that the others had figured out the secret of the graveyard so he could go home.

As Matteo walked up to the three other students, he noticed that they were talking to a fourth person. A man in a full suit and tie.

"Hey guys," Matteo greeted gaining attention.

"Hey! While you and Itadori were out doing nothing, we found the mourning man!" Sasaki excitedly said.

"My wife was laid to rest here," the man explained, "I come here every so often just to see her again," he said.

"I see, well sorry to bother you," Itadori said.

"Truly it's fine, it's nice talk to others you know?" the man said.

"I guess I'll write up the report on this tomorrow," Iguchi said.

"Job well done then," Matteo said.

"Welp see you tomorrow!" Itadori said before speeding off to the train station.

"Why is he in so much of a hurry?" Matteo wondered.

"He visit's his Grampa for a while after school, so he's probably a bit behind on today's homework," Iguchi explained.

"Makes sense," Matteo agreed.

With a sigh, glad he could go home Matteo began to walk to the train station before realizing something.

'Where's my phone?' Matteo wondered while checking his pockets, 'It must have fallen out of my pocket while I was fighting the curse!'

"See you guys!" Matteo said before running back to the part of the graveyard he was in.

————————————————————————

"Glad I could find it," Matteo muttered while putting his phone back in his pocket.

Getting up Matteo finally started to leave, before hearing something.

'Is someone crying?' he wondered.

Unfortunately for Matteo, the sound of someone crying was coming from where he just was.

As Matteo walked forward, he noticed someone at a grave crying.

'Is it that man?' Matteo thought, 'I thought he left'

Not wishing to disrupt the man's mourning, Matteo quietly walked around him trying to leave.

But as Matteo got closer and closer to the man, he noticed that he was much taller than he remembered.

And there was the fact that there was no tears and the man didn't seem to have a face.

And before Matteo even realized what was in front of him, the curse snapped its head towards Matteo, still crying.

'This must be this places curse! What I killed was probably feeding off of this place's cursed energy!' Matteo realized, 'I have to calm down' Matteo thought to himself.

For a moment, he stopped and thought about good ways to calms himself down.

"Two, three, seven, eleven, thirteen, seventeen," Matteo muttered.

The curse began to inch closer to Matteo, and Matteo knew he had no chance. He was worried that even if he ran, he wouldn't be fast enough to out speed this curse.

"Nineteen, twenty-three, twenty-nine," Matteo continued.

Closer and closer the curse got, and right before the curse got in arms reach, Matteo bolted for the exit.

However, as soon as Matteo took his eyes of the curse, it appeared directly in front of him.

In a flash the curse rasied it's hand up and-

Something fired, and as it did a hole appaired in the head of the curse. Before either the curse or Matteo could react, the hole began to spin and make its way down the body of the curse.

In a short time, the hole had made its way to the curses heart. As soon as that happened, the hole spun causing the whole curse to spin as well.

Matteo simply watched the curse spin to death completely unsure if he was going insane or what.

"There you are Matteo," his mother greeted, "I got worried after you didn't respond to my messages.

"Sorry mom, lost my phone for a bit," Matteo replied.

Checking his phone, Matteo saw he had several missed calls and that it had been thirty minutes since he had the last call with his mom.

'She must have been worried' Matteo realized.

As he looked at his mom, Matteo saw something strange. He swore that he saw her fingernails spinning.

"Did you see anything?" his mom asked.

"What?" Matteo responded.

"Did you see anything weird, "Like a tall man without a face," she said.

For a moment, Matteo paused.

"No," he answered, "I didn't see anything," he said.

"Good," his mom said with a smile, "Now let's go home," she said.

"Yes ma'am," Matteo agreed.

"What were you saying while you were in the graveyard" she asked curious.

"Just counting prime numbers," Matteo replied
