Chapter 26 - Chapter 26: Maybe I’ll Go to Hell, but Not Today

Only after coughing violently and spitting out a mouthful of blood did Gandi manage to wrench his hand out of the pile of rubble he was embedded in.

Earlier, he had plowed across the ground, shoveling up countless broken stones in the open area of the parking lot and piling them into a small mound.

Now his body was stuck in this chaotic heap. After pulling his arm free, he looked up at Homelander in midair.

Malice flowed from each of those spider eyes. Gandi let out a roar and raised all four arms.

At once, every cable in the parking lot began to vibrate. Manipulated by an invisible force, they rose up from the ground channels.

Then, one after another, the cables snapped, crackling with sparks, lashing out like tentacles toward Homelander in the air.

Alex let out an "oh."

"So this is your superpower?"

"Controlling cables?"

"That's actually a bit more interesting than the last guy."

As he spoke, he dodged the incoming cables. This was where the flexibility of "flight" really showed.

Alex easily twisted and maneuvered through the air, making it hard for Gandi to lock onto him.

Gandi glanced at the surrounding cars. While keeping the cables dancing, he also directed a portion of them to coil around nearby vehicles and hurl them at Alex one after another.

This made Gandi's attack options far more varied.

While avoiding the cables, Alex also had to deal with the flying cars.

Sometimes he smashed them apart with his fists, sometimes he kicked them away, sometimes he sliced them open with laser eyes.

In the middle of all this, he even let out a few surprised shouts.

Hearing this, Maeve, who was temporarily unable to move on the ground, couldn't help the corner of her mouth twitch.

"That guy isn't even taking this seriously. He's playing with his opponent."

Just then, Alex sliced another car in half with his laser eyes. From behind the two halves flying apart, a huge mass of cables surged forward like a blooming flower, wrapping around Alex's legs, body, arms, neck, and head.

"Got you, you bastard!", Gandi shouted excitedly, controlling even more cables to coil around Homelander and ordering the ones already wrapped around him to discharge electricity into him.

In the blink of an eye, Alex was completely entangled in cables, even his head wrapped tight, turning him into a mummy.

The reporters couldn't help crying out in shock. The police who rushed over were even more helpless.

Since this was being broadcast live, countless comments instantly flooded the online platforms.

[Oh my God, Homelander's been caught.]

[Serves him right. Should've taken the chance to finish the enemy earlier.]

[Go die, Homelander!]

[Homelander, hang in there! The one I like won't lose to a monster like that!]

At that moment, on the screen, two red points of light lit up on the face of the "mummy" floating in midair.

Then two bright red beams shot out, sweeping across the ground and carving a "Z" shape into the parking lot.

BOOM!

Along the path traced by the laser beams, clusters of dark red flames erupted one after another, blasting the cables wrapped around Homelander into scattered pieces.

The number of comments skyrocketed.

[See? I told you this wouldn't stop Homelander.]

[Long live Homelander!]

[I'm hyped! I'm climaxing!]

[Damn it, can't we let the villain win once? Monster guy, you've got to try harder.]

[Why can't Homelander just die!]

Amid all these "voices," the man who had broken free from the cables was already diving through the air, slamming into the parking lot and knocking the "Spider-Man" flying.

In the Walmart department store parking lot, Gandi was sent into the air. Before he could land, Alex caught up and smashed him back down with a punch.

As he descended, Alex planted a foot on Gandi's chest. His eyes glowed faintly red, his face expressionless.

"I'll ask you one last time."

"What exactly is the background of your 'Dark Night Council'?"

Gandi spat a mouthful of blood at the man towering over him.

"Go to hell, demon."

Alex let out a short laugh, smiling without warmth.

"Maybe I'll go to hell, but not today."

He stopped wasting words and fired his laser eyes straight into Gandi's spider eyes.

Gandi immediately screamed. The skin on his head glowed red from the inside out, every capillary lit up.

His tissues were being destroyed, yet his cells were frantically repairing themselves at the same time. The process was agonizing, forcing him to scream nonstop.

But a few seconds later, as threads of dark red light seeped out from beneath Gandi's skin, his screams suddenly stopped. Then surging dark red flames burst out from under his skin.

With a thunderous boom, Gandi's head exploded completely. His struggling body went still, all four arms slamming to the ground with a dull thud. Then his body turned into black powder, like paper burned to ash, scattering into the wind.

[You have perfectly resolved this event.]

Two talents had leveled up.

'Super-Speed Movement' and 'Super Strength' would be able to upgrade soon as well.

Most importantly, he had gained forty-eight proficiency essences in one go.

Adding that to what he already had, he now possessed ninety-three essences.

Aside from exchanging one gene serum, the rest could be used to boost talent proficiency.

Very good. That brought him one step closer to "Big Blue." [T/N: Superman]

Alex smiled in satisfaction, then flew out of the parking lot and hovered above the crowd.

Reporters and police alike looked up at him nervously. Finally, one reporter raised a microphone and asked, "Homelander, what happened to that monster?"

Alex raised one finger and pointed toward the sky, then flashed a bright white smile.

"I've already sent him to see God."

At once, cheers erupted from the crowd.

Flashbulbs went off nonstop, no one knew how much film the reporters burned through.

Alex didn't linger long. After letting the reporters take their photos, he waved and left.

He flew over to Maeve, scooped up the still-numb "Queen," and with a whoosh soared into the sky, heading toward the Seven Tower.

In midair, Alex glanced at Maeve in his arms.

"So… can we talk about tonight's date now?"
