Chapter 31 - Chapter 31: Let Me Give You a Full Checkup

After being scolded by Angelina, Dodge could not stay there any longer. He fled the Seven Tower as if running for his life.

At this moment, inside the livestream room, the bullet comments flew past one after another.

[I knew it, he was smearing Homelander. What a piece of trash, I am unfollowing.]

[This is going too far. I thought he had real evidence. Turns out it was all guesswork.]

[Garbage. Just chasing clout. How is he any different from those media reporters. Unfollow!]

Looking at the stream of insults on his phone screen, watching his follower count drop off a cliff, Dodge Wilson's heart was bleeding.

"It should not be like this."

"The doctor clearly told me Angelina was seriously injured."

"Since when can Homelander cure severe injuries?"

"He turned me into a clown. He made me embarrass myself in front of millions. He ruined my career!"

Thinking of this, Dodge suddenly turned back toward the Seven Tower and made an international gesture. [T/N: The middle finger of respect.]

———

Inside a townhouse in a certain neighborhood—

A man was looking at his phone.

"Dear, what are you looking at?", A woman who looked fairly decent handed him a cup of coffee.

The man took the coffee, put down his phone, and said, "This idiot offended Homelander."

The woman glanced at the phone. On the screen was a man who had just walked out of the Seven Tower.

"He is?"

"A third-rate reporter. Wanted to get famous by smearing Homelander, but failed."

The man pulled the woman over and said with a grin, "Dear, what do you think. If I twist off this idiot's head and send it to Homelander, would he let me join the Seven?"

The woman cupped his face and said, "Definitely. Then our Mr. Blue Eagle will be a member of the Seven."

———

Inside an old apartment building, the liquid man in a long coat stared at a tablet.

On the screen, Angelina looked pale, but overall did not seem like an injured patient. She was righteously criticizing the host of the livestream.

"Impossible."

At that moment, his phone rang.

The liquid man glanced at it. It was his employer, O'Connor.

He thought for a moment, then answered, while turning on the recording function.

Soon, O'Connor's voice came through the phone.

["Tell me what is going on?"]

["Are you playing me for a fool!"]

["Why is that woman still alive!"]

The liquid man was about to explain, but O'Connor did not give him the chance.

["You have already taken my money. You had better put Angelina, my lovely little niece, into a cold coffin!"]

Then the call was cut off.

The liquid man fell silent for a moment, then opened the recording and listened again to what O'Connor had just said.

———

[The Seven Tower, 88th floor]

Inside the CEO's office, Edgar exited the livestream and turned off his phone.

He closed his eyes, smiled, and said to the empty office, "What do you think. How did Homelander heal a girl who was seriously injured?"

"Organ damage, severe internal bleeding. You cannot save that just by closing wounds."

The office was very quiet. No one answered.

Edgar opened his eyes, looked around, and continued, "I know you are here, Invisible Man."

"Homelander sent you to monitor me, right?"

"He has really changed a lot. Do you know why that is?"

The office was still silent.

Edgar let out a soft chuckle and said, "Looks like The Deep's death scared you half to death."

"It is fine. Just keep staying silent."

"I only have one request."

"When I go to the restroom, do not stare at me. Thanks."

After saying that, Edgar lowered his head and continued working.

At that moment, behind the Vought CEO, was a potted plant. There was no wind indoors, yet one of its leaves moved on its own.

———

Seven Tower, in Maeve's room. Alex stood by the window, hands on his hips, looking into the distance.

"Do you not have your own room to go to?", Maeve had already taken off her armor. She was dressed lightly, showing off her long legs, lying on a beach chair.

Alex turned around, walked over to Maeve with a smile, and without any restraint reached out to gently cup one side of her face, "As a teammate, I feel obligated to come check on you."

Maeve glanced at the hand resting on her face. She did not move it away, only said, "Then you have checked."

"As you can see, I am fine. I have recovered."

Alex's hand moved downward, "That is hard to say. I think it is necessary to give you a full-body checkup."

Maeve chuckled, "Just a checkup?"

Alex extended one finger, lightly hooked her collar, and asked with a smile, "What else would it be?"

Just then, Alex's phone rang.

Maeve also casually pressed a hand against her chest, "I appreciate your kindness, but I think you have other things to take care of right now."

Alex smiled, said nothing, and left the room.

After hearing the door close, Maeve let out a small sigh of relief. She looked at the ceiling and muttered softly, "What is up with that guy?"

"It feels like he has changed into a different person."

"And he even wants to reorganize the Seven."

"But if it means no ads, no movies, and no reality shows, that would actually be nice."

.

.

.

In the blink of an eye, it was Sunday.

That afternoon, in the training room, Alex turned off all surveillance and accompanied Angelina in combat training.

"Come at me," Alex smiled and beckoned with his hand.

Angelina shouted and moved fast. Her explosive power in an instant was extremely strong. If it were not Alex, others would probably only see a blur.

A fierce knee strike slammed into Alex's abdomen, but it failed to knock him down as Angelina had expected.

She circled Alex, punching and kicking. Every punch and every kick was enough to kill an ordinary person, but when it landed on Alex, it was like scratching an itch.

Alex stood still. He even had the spare attention to open his status panel and look at "Steel Body."

After Angelina attacked for a long time, that talent finally, grudgingly, increased by 1 point of proficiency.

'Looks like routine training barely increases proficiency. It has to be real combat to get decent gains.'

As Alex was thinking this, Angelina jumped up. She mounted his shoulders, clamped her thighs around his head, then twisted her waist hard, trying to throw Alex down.

But Alex did not move an inch.

Then he raised his hand, grabbed Angelina's hand, and smiled, "Looks like I am not suitable as your sparring partner. Let us stop here for today and do another kind of exercise."

Angelina's face immediately flushed slightly red.

While they were exercising, Alex said, "The guy who tried to assassinate you that day. Anika from the criminal analysis department provided some useful information. I believe it was done by a superhuman called the Liquid Man."

"That guy is on our blacklist. A professional killer."

"Now that he knows you are not dead, he will definitely make a move. I need you to cooperate. That way, your revenge show can begin."

Angelina's voice trembled, "Everything… will be as the master commands…"
