Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: As Expected of Me

A real alliance of superhumans should be like the "Avengers" or the "Justice League."

The original Seven was nothing more than a fake superhuman alliance.

The only one who could really fight was Homelander, with Queen Maeve a tier below him.

After that came people like Black Noir and the Invisible Man.

The "Starlight" who joined the Seven in the TV series was simply a disgrace to superhumans. Aside from her looks, her combat power was just so-so.

At the end of season three, she acted as a one-time super battery, charging up the entire Seven Tower's electricity just to blast Homelander away, and he simply got back up after dusting himself off.

Alex had no intention of sleeping his way into things with "Starlight," so why waste a slot on her.

So very quickly, he found "Starlight" Annie, stamped a "REJECTED" label next to her name on the list, and sent it to the organizers.

Only then did he seriously begin reviewing the names and profiles of each candidate, along with their abilities. What Alex cared about most was their real combat experience.

Anyone without real combat experience, or whose abilities were useless, were all REJECTED.

There were many candidates. Just looking through the materials, an entire day passed like that.

While taking a break, a news report was playing.

On the screen, a famous and beautiful female news anchor spoke with a face full of sorrow, ["Just last night, our city's wealthy tycoon and great philanthropist, Mr. Truman Caton, passed away due to illness."]

["Mr. Truman Caton had only one child. His daughter, Angelina Caton, overwhelmed by grief last night, jumped from a building in an apparent suicide."]

["Fortunately, Homelander saved her and personally sent her to Saint Anna Hospital."]

Hearing his own name mentioned, Alex couldn't help paying a bit more attention. Then he saw a photograph appear on the screen.

It was a young and beautiful girl, who looked very much like Anne Hathaway, with a tiny black mole at the corner of her mouth.

It was exactly the girl he had casually saved last night.

"Just as expected of me."

"A casual save, and it's a rich man's daughter."

Alex smiled, turned off the TV, and didn't think much of it.

After dinner, he returned to the command hall to continue selecting new members for the Seven, but Ashley came in.

The assistant looked excited as she hurried over to Alex.

"Homelander, someone wants to see you."

"Angelina Caton!"

"The 'princess' you saved last night!"

Alex lifted his head and confirmed that Ashley wasn't joking.

.

A moment later—

Alex met Angelina Caton. He hadn't looked closely last night, but seeing her today, she was indeed a stunning beauty, vivid and alluring.

Alex waved his hand, telling Ashley to leave and to temporarily not let anyone else in.

Ashley gave Alex a look that said "I get it" and quickly left.

Only Alex and this strikingly beautiful girl remained in the hall.

"So," Alex spread his hands and smiled, "Do you need something from me, Miss Angelina?"

"If it's to say thank you, then there's no need."

Angelina lightly bit her pink lip and stepped forward, "Homelander, you saw it last night too, didn't you?"

"I wasn't like what they said on TV, committing suicide out of grief over my father's death."

"No, I was pushed!"

Alex shrugged and smiled, "If that's the case, then I think you should seek help from the police."

"It's useless. Uncle O'Connor must have already arranged everything. No one will believe what I say."

"Except you!"

There seemed to be flames burning in Angelina's eyes, "My father didn't die from illness either. He was murdered by my uncle, his younger brother, O'Connor Caton!"

"My uncle wanted to get rid of me too. That way, my father's property would all be inherited by him."

"But he didn't expect that you would save me."

"So I want to beg you, beg you to stand up, beg you to decide things for me, and help me take revenge!"

Alex laughed, "Miss Angelina, yes, last night I did indeed see someone behind the window. But just because of that, you want me to stand up, you want me to help you take revenge."

"Don't you think that's a bit childish?"

"Alright, miss, I still have other things to handle. Could I ask you to leave?"

Angelina shook her head, "Please believe me. Right now, only you can help me."

Alex looked at her seriously, "The only one who can truly help you will always be yourself."

"Remember, Miss Angelina, never entrust your life to someone else, even if that person is me."

Angelina fell into inner conflict.

Actually, Alex believed what she said. He could even picture a whole dramatic story of wealthy family feuds, but he had no interest in it and didn't want to get involved.

Suddenly, Alex thought of the [NK Gene Modification Serum] in the shop, and an idea immediately came to him.

"However..."

Hearing that Homelander seemed open to discussion, Angelina looked over.

Alex sat down and sized the girl up from head to toe, "You could completely take revenge yourself."

Angelina shook her head, "I don't have that kind of power."

"What if I told you that I could give you that power?", Alex threw out the bait.

Angelina froze for a moment, then said, "Really?"

"If you're willing to help me, I can promise you that after I reclaim my father's property, I'll give you half of it!"

Alex shook his head, "I'm not interested in money."

Angelina was stunned, "Then you?"

"I'm more interested in you," Alex smiled.

Angelina was startled at first, then her expression grew complicated. Finally, as if she had made up her mind, she suddenly took off her clothes.

This time, it was Alex's turn to be stunned.

He then laughed, "Stop. You misunderstood what I meant."

"It's not that you lack charm, but what I want more is someone loyal to me, someone who will carry out every order I give without hesitation."

Half of Truman Caton's fortune, or an heir with the full inheritance, and a superhuman loyal to himself, which one was more useful, Alex knew very well.

Yes, he wanted to use a [NK Gene Modification Serum] to create a superhuman confidant.

If that superhuman confidant also possessed massive assets, then that would be squeezing the serum's value to the absolute limit.

If it succeeded, Angelina would become a force outside the Seven.

A force that Vought would not know about.

A pretty good trump card.

At this moment, Angelina understood. After thinking it over, she nodded.

"As long as I can help my father get revenge, I don't care what happens to me."

"From today on, you are my master!"

Of course, Alex wouldn't believe her just like that.

So-called "loyalty" had to stand the test of time.

He glanced at Angelina, who was half undressed, and smiled, "Now you can take them off."

"All of them."

Before, it was a "misunderstanding."

This time, it was an "order."

The first "order" of the master.

.

.

.

A moment later—

The doors of the command hall opened. Ashley heard Homelander say inside, "Arrange a room for Miss Angelina. Put it right next to mine."

Ashley immediately showed an "as expected" expression, then smiled at the heiress who walked out, "Miss Angelina, please follow me."

The doors of the command hall closed again. Alex savored the springtime view from earlier, then lightly nodded.

Just then, his phone rang.

A call from Invisible Man.
