Information flashed rapidly across his retina. Alex didn't pay it any attention. He had already spotted the sniper.
That guy was crouched on a rooftop. Sensing Alex's approach, he decisively jumped up and turned to run.
Only then did Alex see clearly that this guy, just like the previous bank robber, was wearing armor similar to Iron Man's.
It was just much more compact. When he ran, the power was immense. In a few strides he crossed the rooftop, then leapt off.
While jumping off the building, the sniper turned around, raised the long-barreled sniper rifle, aimed at Alex, and fired.
A blue light flickered briefly on the rifle's casing. Then, without a sound, a bullet struck Alex at extreme speed.
It deformed on impact and fell away.
Alex narrowed his eyes slightly. His eyes lit up, and two deep red beams shot downward.
The sniper seemed to have anticipated Alex using his "laser eyes." He raised his arm first, and a black line shot out from the wrist armor.
It was a grappling line.
The alloy hook fixed itself onto a building across the street, allowing the sniper to swing across the road like Spider-Man and land on the outer wall of the building on the other side.
But at that moment, the sniper saw Alex's figure rapidly enlarge in the window of the building. Then he heard a loud bang, and the world started spinning.
After the laser eyes missed, Alex accelerated midair and slammed into him, creating a ripple in the air as he smashed the sniper into an office.
Watching the armored sniper tumble around the office, Alex smiled, flashed inside, and reached out to grab the other man's shoulder.
Suddenly, the back of the sniper's armor flared brightly, blasting out white light and forcing Alex to close his eyes.
Flashbang!
When he opened them again, the sniper had already jumped out of the window.
Alex smashed through the glass and saw the sniper clinging to the outer wall, sliding down like a frog. He smiled, suddenly dove, and threw a punch.
BANG!
On the street below, pedestrians suddenly heard a loud crash overhead. They all looked up and saw something fall from the building, smashing onto a car and punching a hole straight through it.
Then a car door flew off, and a guy in armor burst out, fleeing in panic down the street.
The armor was dented in many places, sparks jumping all over it. It was clearly heavily damaged.
Even so, the wearer was still running fast. He grabbed a passerby, and a short blade gleaming with cold light extended from the right wrist armor, pressed against the passerby's neck. Then a clearly voice-modulated sound rang out, "Don't come any closer, Homelander!"
"Unless you want him dead!"
The street immediately erupted in screams. People scrambled to flee, rushing into nearby convenience stores and other shops.
Alex didn't hurry to step in. He simply sat on the rooftop, wanting to see what tricks the guy was going to pull.
An iron man falling from the sky and taking a hostage instantly blew up the 911 lines.
The police were fairly efficient too. Before long, several patrol cars arrived and surrounded the iron man.
A police chief pointed his gun at the iron man and shouted, ["Put the weapon down!"]
The iron man shouted back, "All of you get lost. I want to see Homelander. Let that coward come out!"
The police chief looked confused, "Did anyone see Homelander?"
Everyone shook their heads.
So the chief said, "I can help you contact the Seven Tower, but you have to release the hostage."
The iron man roared, "Homelander, stop hiding. I know you're nearby. Get out here!"
"If you don't come out, I'll kill him!"
The passerby immediately screamed, "Don't kill me! Don't kill me!"
The police chief hurried to calm him down, "Stay calm. We can talk this through."
"I said I want to see Homelander!", The iron man's shoulder armor suddenly lifted, revealing two small machine guns, which immediately rattled off a burst of bullets toward the front of the police cars.
This scared the police badly. Several officers reflexively opened fire on the iron man.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Amid the gunfire, sparks jumped across the iron man's faceplate as bullets slapped into it. Startled, his hand shook, and the sharp short blade instantly slit the hostage's neck.
"Damn it."
Watching the hostage clutch his neck and drop to his knees, the iron man made a snap decision and turned to run.
The powerful armor let him cover ten meters in a single step. In the blink of an eye, he reached the street corner.
Just as he was about to turn into another street, the police heard the sound of something tearing through the air overhead. Whoosh! Several officers had their hats blown off by the wind.
Then they saw a blue shadow streak toward the corner, slamming viciously into the iron man.
The iron man was sent flying sideways, smashing through a fire hydrant. A column of water immediately shot up from the street.
Above that column of water, a Stars and Stripes cape was lifted and danced in the evening breeze.
"Homelander!"
"Homelander's here!"
"Long live Homelander!"
People poured out of the shops, whistling and cheering.
Amid the cheers, Alex lunged at the iron man without expression. He reached out and grabbed hard, five fingers sinking into the armor. With a squeeze, the chest plate caved in, sparks flashing inside.
Alex grabbed the iron man, who was leaning against the base of the building, and shot upward, dragging him along so that his body scraped violently against the building again and again. Countless chunks of debris hammered against the helmet, leaving the wearer inside seeing stars.
Whoosh!
Alex shot straight up, breaking through the clouds, reaching an altitude of over a thousand meters.
Then he brutally tore off the faceplate and ripped away pieces of armor, revealing a Black man in his sight.
Alex curled his lips, "Alright. Tell me, who are you?"
"And where did you get this suit of armor?"
At a thousand meters up, it was obvious the man wasn't a superhuman.
Without the armor's protection, his breathing became rapid, yet he still raised his middle finger at Alex.
"Go to hell, Homelander!"
"A piece of trash like you doesn't deserve to live in this world."
Alex shrugged, "Maybe. But unfortunately, the one who's going to die now is you."
"Can you fly?"
With that, he let go.
A scream rapidly faded into the distance.
Alex hovered in midair. After a moment, information appeared before his eyes.
