Chapter 25 - Chapter 25

"Ouch!" Abby yelled. As she looks over her right shoulder, she noticed blue paint splattered against it. Pulling out her revolver, she noticed a woman 50 yards from her. Boom! Boom! "Look towards the northwest!"

"I got you," Cody says as he pulled out his rifle, cocking back one bullet and taking shots. Each of the shots of the beach were about 150 yards out.

Cody and Abby slammed hard on the sand as they fell into a hole with sandbags protecting them from the oncoming bullets.

"Damn it!" Cody looks over the top of the sandbags seeing a light-skinned man with a tan uniform to the northeast of him running towards a wooden barrier. "I got you mutherfucka." Cocking back his rifle, he pulled the trigger. Boom! Boom! He quickly got back behind the sandbags as he felt the bullet whiz over his head. "You okay?" he inquired as he looks over at Abby's right shoulder. "How many times did they peg you?"

"I think just once," Abby says, shaking off the pain. "Man, that hurt!" Pulling down her garments she noticed a large red spot. "The big group of them are there. Can I hold your binoculars so I can take a look?"

You got shot once already. Let me take a risk or two." Cody had a look of concern on his face as he pulled out his binoculars and slightly leaned over the edge of the sandbags. "I got one of the guys that took a shot at you. It looks like he is in the shack about fifty meters to the northwest. I see a set of stairs leading to the backside of the fort where the flag is. There is just too much wide-open beach."

Plop!

"What the hell?" Cody bellows as he turned around. A woman with blue pigtails appeared before them.

"Rosemary!" Abby put her arms around her giving her a big hug. Her eyes traced Rosemary's leg and shoulder. "They got you twice already. How big are the welts?"

"I am going to need some lotion after all of this and a nice massage." Rosemary rubbed her leg and shoulder as if trying to massage the pain.

"I can help you with that," Cody chuckled, putting his hand into his hair.

Rosemary rolled her eyes. "I'm going to pretend like I didn't hear that. The other squad has at least 20 people."

"Twenty people!" Abby's eyes opened wide, displeased with the info. "Do you happen to know how many we tagged?"

Rosemary put her hands up over her shoulders. "Since I've been running around, about seven. I found the two you guys took out as well. With all this running I am going to work off the pound cake I ate last night."

"Where did you get pound cake?" Cody inquired. "I could use a tasty treat right now."

"The pound cake is not important," Abby hisses, flustered. "Though I would like to have a slice sometime in the future. We need to peg at least four or five people out here. Did you happen to catch how many people are on the back side in front of us? From my view point it looks like at least a two-mile walk."

Rosemary took a deep breath, her pigtails covered in sand with a tan hue to them. "I counted only three coming up from the side. That is all my eyes traced though. I couldn't see anyone hiding in cravens like this."

"Dammit," Cody clenched his teeth. Taking some sand from the beach, he put some into his hair, shaking it all around. In times like these we just must make our own way. This is war, right!" Cody's eyes traced the two females beside him.

"Don't go running out there," Abby insisted, grabbing him on the shoulder. "Rosemary, do you think you could be a decoy for us?"

Rosemary sighed as more gun fire pelted the sandbags above them. Tightening her lips, she took out a bottle of water and took a chug. "Yeah, I can do that for you. If they take me out, that's it. I haven't run into the others squad's scout yet. What were you thinking?"

Abby traced her fingers in the dirt, creating some stick figures and different boxes with roofs representing the shacks in front of them. "Don't laugh, okay? We are going to hit them with the tag flank."

"Tag flank?" Cody inquired.

"Yes!" Abby's eyes lit up. "Look here at the first stick figure," she says. "That is going to be you, Cody. Since you love to be the center of attention, I put you running straight forward into the action."

"I'm honored, but I don't want to be lit up like that," he says, scratching his head.

"Don't worry, I have something planned to prevent you from getting taken out." Abby pointed to another stick figure to the left, looking at Rosemary. "You need to get back to Monica and report. Instead of going back to safety, can you dart out going diagonally towards the sunflower meadow?"
