Chapter 27 - Chapter 27

Abby's eyes surveyed the rest of the beach that was jagged rock going for a mile or two up the coastline.

I don't see any more shacks along the way. I don't want to walk around all these rocks. She was swiftly across the hilly terrain without skipping a beat. There are no sandbags up here either. I think we actually got them all.

Whoosh! Ping!

Abby stood silently as she heard her ears ringing for a moment. Sniper fire! She quickly darted to the left behind a rock that barely covered the circumference of her body. This is bad! This is really bad!Why put the sniper rifle on the backside? What if it's just a regular rifle when the wind and the waves are messing up your hearing?

Ping! Another bullet hit the rock and the shell landed a few feet from her.

If I can get to that shell I can understand what I am working with. I can't take any more hits. Two more hits and I'm out! She got close to her stomach, her shoulders and knees lowered slowly to the left edge of the rock. Right, here we go! She had her hand out so she could see bullets in the cloud. The sand next to her blew into the air .

Checking the bullet, she noticed it was a little bit shorter than she thought. This is a sniper bullet that has been modified. She observed that the base of the bullet was similar to the ones she carried on her hip.

I'm going to have to go for it! On the other side of the rock, she dug into the sand a little bit harder, using her binoculars to take a quick look. I came less than half a mile from the stairs. If I get to the stairs I have a good chance of making it to the flag.

Abby took a deep breath, swiftly moving from around the rock, bullets raised by her feet. She darted left and right, finally diving behind a large rock, where she took a moment to catch her breath. Peeking over the oversized stone, she heard another bullet whizzing overhead.

They expect me to go to the right this time, so I need to go to the left. Abby held her rifle to her chest. She took a deep breath and darted out from the left side of the rock. As expected, the bullets slammed right out of rock as Abby put her rifle toward a woman peeking from behind the top of the stairs, her hair a dark scarlet.

She got on one knee and pointed her rifle toward the opening at the top of the stairs. Boom! Crack! Crack! Three bullets rained out towards the woman.

Now's my chance. She jumped up the stone steps, hard as rocks. Tripping she slammed her knee into a stone step. "No time," she says, shaking her head she darted up the stairs. Her eyes were traced forward at a woman with peach red hair around the corner, firing one shot.

Boom!

Abby's eyes traced over her left shoulder as a bright red powder exploded from the impact of the bullet.

Don't stop! The top of the stairs was within reach as she rounded the corner. Two people stood in front of her. It was as if time stopped as she shifted the revolver up, her eyes tracing the woman. Pulling the trigger twice, the bullets hit the woman in the shoulder.

"I got you!" a man in a tan uniform yelled. He pointed his semi-automatic right at Abby's chest.

BOOM! A loud crackling sound exploded as a man grabbed his right shoulder. "Dammit, that's three," the man grunted, taking a seat on the ground.

Who saved me? There was no time to ponder. She quickly turned left as a stone wall curved to the right. Getting to the end of the hallway, she saw the blue flag waving in the open. Her eyes pierced the backside of a man standing there around the corner with a rifle in his hand.

She noticed that the man was alone. There were no entrances to the hallways in front of her. It was just her and the man and 25 to 30 feet of distance between them. She knew her revolver was empty, so she shouldered her rifle quietly to her left, her scope on the man of the tan suit. Sorry about this buddy. She pulled the trigger as a single bullet hit the man in the shoulder.

Boom! Another shot rang out from an unknown location as the man took a seat on the ground.

I can do this! She darted forward the brown bricks blazing past her as she went back out to the open sun. I got it! She was one step away from the flag when to her right she saw a group of three with rifles pointed at her. I'm not going to make it.

Boom! Boom! Boom! Shots rang out.
