Chapter 1 - School Life

I woke up to my alarm on my phone, but I didn't want to get up.

I had a difficult Mathematics test, but I didn't study.

After that, I heard my mom.

I glanced up and saw her standing in my room.

I immediately got up, scared to get scolded.

I said "I'll start getting ready." she shouted:

"Why did it take so long? Didn't I say to stop slacking off, YUKI!"

"Yeah yeah, sorry about that. I'll run to school."

I hurried down to eat a bowl of rice, then I looked at the clock and realized I didn't have time to eat a lot.

I rushed back upstairs to brush my teeth and realized I'd forgotten to button my suit and fix my hair properly.

I immediately put it back how it was supposed to be.

I looked at my spiky black hair, my baggy clothes, and my chains.

I had three on my neck and one on my pants.

I also had two rings on my right hand.

I ran back downstairs and put on my shoes to leave.

My mom said:

"Have fun at schoo— ow, he already left."

I dashed to school to get there on time, but I only had five minutes to run a whole kilometer.

I saw people I knew on the street; some said hello to me, some didn't.

I didn't say anything though.

I focused on running fast enough to get on time.

Just as I arrived, the bell rang.

I shouted:

"Made it!"

The sweat was running down my face.

It felt nice to feel the sweat cool me down because it was almost summer.

But then my friends said:

"Good Monday right? Fun school, did you study well, Yuki?"

I laughed and said I didn't, and that the test would go very badly.

I made my way to the classroom, but I was there before the homeroom teacher.

I was relieved that I really was on time.

Sato immediately jumped in my face asking:

"Yo Yuki, how was your weekend?"

"It was good, I went over to Yui's house.

It was fun seeing her parents again," I said.

"Oh, how did it go with her? Had some lovey-dovey time?" he said, grinning.

"Shut up," I said.

He said "uhuh" while grinning.

"Class, quiet down. Okay, time for ethics. Who can read paragraph 5 on page 80 for me?"

A boy who sat on the far right on the second row put up his hand.

"Yes, Keita."

I didn't really like ethics though, but sadly I had to pay attention to pass.

I was smart, so I didn't need to study a lot.

Though mid-lecture my head went into the clouds, and I couldn't wait for it to be lunch.

But first I would need to make it through math.

It was a very hard test about something I wasn't good at.

But before that I had to get through ethics and English.

I glanced at Sato, and when he noticed, he made a funny face.

I burst out laughing.

I tried to bury my face in the desk, trying my best to stop laughing, but I wasn't able to. After the teacher yelled:

"Yuki, what's so funny!"

I said that there was nothing.

I felt my face calming down and just thought to myself,

"Calm down."

I tried studying a bit during English, but it didn't really go well.

Then it was time for the test.

"Everyone clear your desks."

"Get ready for the test."

I got the test in front of me and read the first question:

Work this out as far as you can:

(x½.y¼.x–2.y-1)/(x–½.y-¼)

I read it and then thought:

"Maybe I should've paid attention."

"I have no shot on this test."

I looked at Sato with a sad look.

He looked at me with the same look.

He had really bad grades in school, but this time I was in the same boat as him.

I finished the test, and I thought I would get 20%.

But it was finally lunch.

I said bye to Sato and headed to class A2.8 to see Yui.

She was still talking with friends, so I waited outside. She saw me and headed outside too.

"Hey Yui, nice to see you."

"Nice to see you too, Yuki."

"Let's go to the roof," I said.

We climbed the stairs slowly, passing a first-year couple on the way.

When we opened the door, the warm summer wind gushed past.

I truly felt alive.

We both sat on the ground against the fence and opened our bento.

I asked her,

"Do you want to go on a date to the movies?"

"Yes" she answered immediately.

I looked her in the eye.

I truly loved her—her beautiful face, her blue eyes, her beautiful smile, her ponytail, her black t-shirt, and perfect personality.

I gazed at her, blushed and went in for a kiss.

Just as I was leaning in, Sato opened the door asking how it's going.

He said,

"Oh, sorry to ruin the moment, lovebirds."

Then Karin, the best friend of Yui, also followed him, saying:

"How's it going, lovebirds?" with a smile on her face.

"Don't let us stop you," they said at the same time while grinning.

They came to sit with us as we all finished our lunch together.

Once we finished our bentos, Sato made some jokes only he found funny.

I gave Yui a kiss and headed back to class while Sato was making jokes, saying, "Being lovey-dovey, Yuki?"

"Very funny, Sato."

In class, everything was boring, but yeah, I didn't really have a choice.

When the school day was finally over, I went back to my house, but this time I could walk comfortably.

While I was walking home, I saw a man being taken into a police car.

There had been a lot of crimes committed in the last months.

It was kind of scary how many crimes had been happening lately.

I opened my door, telling my parents that I had returned.

My parents asked that question they always asked every day:

"Was it fun at school?"

I always answered the same, "No, it was boring."

I headed upstairs and laid in my bed, but then black flashed in front of my eyes and I fainted…
