Flynn reached out his hand toward Fenris, palm facing down. Deep red energy began to pour from his fingers—thick, pulsing, deadly. It swirled through the air like liquid fire, surrounding Fenris's broken body in a cocoon of crimson light.
Jinx's eyes widened. "What are you doing?"
"I want to make this worthwhile," Flynn said, his voice calm. "Death is too easy. Suffering that is forgotten is meaningless."
The red energy pulsed brighter, then completely engulfed Fenris. For a moment, he was nothing but a shape inside a glowing sphere. Then the light faded, retracting back into Flynn's hand like smoke being sucked into a vacuum.
Fenris lay in the snow, completely healed. His face was whole again. His legs were unbroken. His arm was straight. He looked exactly as he had before the beating—unharmed, unconscious, and utterly unaware of what had just happened to him.
