Chapter 3 - Chapter 2 : Memories of the Past

****

It was exactly 14 years ago, a storm was raging over a small town, which was called Dregors. The town was situated near the coast and at the edge of the town, there was a shabby-looking house. Both mom and I lived in the house, I never knew who my father was, but mom always tells me that he had an accident and died. I knew something was wrong there, but I didn't question her claim. The television was on and it displayed horrible news.

"People in the east should evacuate, because cyclone Xavi - is moving towards the eastern part and it's going to bring a heavy downpour, which might likely create flooding and landslides," the news reporter announced.

My eyes were wide open in utter disbelief. I couldn't even move, "That's our town," when I mustered some strength to move, I immediately told mom. At first, she didn't believe, but when I showed her the news she was more inclined to go to the shelter.

The main problem was that the shelter nearest to us was about 150km away, before we got there the storm would have begun. We were in the middle of a crossroad, but nevertheless, we headed toward the shelter. We were halfway through the journey, when lightning struck a nearby tree. It was like the sky was speaking to us, saying "Hurry up or you will be toast." Our faces were glum, but we still carried on knowing our fate depended on this.

Within a few minutes, a few droplets of rain started dropping from the sky until it eventually started raining. Mom and I knew that we were not going to make it, but that didn't waver her determination to get there. She stepped on the gas and sped the car like never before. Try as we may, we weren't able to make it to the shelter before the storm started. We had to settle for an abandoned building in the middle of nowhere.

The building was really old and rickety, just one blow could make the building collapse. We had no choice but to settle in there. The wind started blowing heavily and the house began to shake. Mom knew the building could not withstand the storm so she used her body to cover me.

Not so long the building started to buckle under the pressure of the wind. The first thing that collapsed was the roof, then followed by the walls. There was both dust and rain everywhere, and under the rubble was mom and I. When the dust settled, I noticed a rubble was on top of us and mom didn't seem to breathe.

"Mom! Please don't leave me, wake up mom, please. Just for me."

I shouted on top of my voice, but she didn't wake. "It looks like we will both die here, mom," I said to myself as I was stuck underneath the rubble. After some hours, I heard some distant voices, a female especially, I couldn't really hear what she said but I could piece some information together.

"Someone is here, please save the person."

That was what I could hear before a bright light began to pierce my eyes and what I could see was a girl of my age who had a beautiful face and raven black hair, then I fainted.
