Chapter 5 - Chapter 4: The Strategy

In the middle of the sea, there was a lonely submarine and in it were 6 people.

"...follow my commands." Those were the words spoken by Quinn.

"If we follow you, how do you intend to solve this problem?" I asked half expecting him to be startled. "Great question, well we will have to follow protocol," He answered. "Which is?"

"Abandon other submarines and continue our mission," He said those sentences without any display of human emotion.

I glanced beside me and noticed Emily's face was filled with anger and disgust. "This man is crazy," I uttered under my breath.

"How will we complete this mission? By killing those who will stand in our way and that includes those monsters. How will we kill them? Through this," He brought out a briefcase and in it, there were 3 syringes which contain some unknown fluid.

"This is BD-109, this fluid is known to permanently increase an individual's traits like strength, stamina, speed, reasoning and so on," He smiled as he spoke.

"Shouldn't we first contact those on ground?" Mark asked. "Sorry to say, but connection to the top is poor and unstable," The captain said as he glanced at the control panel.

The panel displayed 4 heat signatures approaching them. Everyone knew what that means, there was no more running from the inevitable.

"Shit! It's here," Edward swore. "So, what are you going to do?" Quinn smiled as he stretched his hands wide. Everyone's gaze fell upon the case waiting for who will make the first move, until Edward made the move followed by Mark and finally the captain.

'It looks like everything is going according to plan for him,' I thought as I stared at him noticing his dubious face. I couldn't get what he was planning, each time I try to get it, it was like trying to view through a fog which is impossible. 'Sometime you have to make the impossible be possible.'

Finally, the monsters attacked the submarine. "It is now or never, those who took the fluid will intercept them, while those who didn't will operate the submarine," Quinn commanded and each one of us followed those command.

"I have a feeling things is not going to go as expected," Emily confessed, staring at the screen. "Why?" I asked. "You didn't notice the way they attacked the other submarines," she stared at my face only few meters separating our lips.

"Notice what? Wait, do you mean their attack pattern." "Bingo, it seems those monsters have some form of knowledge and this might not have been their first. And if this is not their first that means everything is going according to plan for them," As she explained, I fully began to understand the state of urgency we are in.

"They might be more than 4 out there, maybe thousands or millions. In one way or the other, we are dealing with something we don't have full grasp of."

"Shit!! We fell for their trap, shouldn't we warn the others," I shouted in utter frustration. "We can't," I looked at her face and noticed it was of those who has try everything, but couldn't find a way, someone who has accepted defeat.

"I won't give up, we can still warn them before they attack them," I said, trying to find possible ways to save them.

"We can't, we can't use the intercom, it seems something is affecting the connection and we can't go outside, that will be suicide," She said with a serious face.

"If it gets worse, we will have to abandon them," She added. I didn't know whether she was joking or not because of her straight face. "I hope it doesn't get to that," I muttered.

I glanced at the screen and noticed the team have started engaging with the monsters. I shifted my vision towards the monsters and took notice of its appearance.

The first thing I took notice of was its color, the monster had a completely black body, it was like staring at darkness itself. My gaze moved forward and the first thing that caught my attention was its eyes. It had 8 eyes, 4 eyes on each side. Those eyes were blood red filled with malicious intent.

Its tentacles flashed towards Edward like a lightning striking the earth. Edward's eyes were fixed on the tentacles not moving an inch with a speed that defy logic, he dodged each of the strikes.

My eyes were wide open, I couldn't believe it, 'What?! He dodged it. So that is the power of BD-109,' I couldn't move my eyes from the screen.

"Does this mean we still have a chance?" I asked, "Look at the big picture Peter," She said plainly, staring at the screen.

Her voice rang through my head, 'look at the big picture'. I concentrated my vision on the monsters and noticed they were screeching. I scowled.

"What are they doing?" I asked. "They are calling their friends," She said with a smile on her face.

I knew what that means, I fixed my gaze into the abyss and noticed some shadows started to move.

"The real battle is about to start."
