Chapter 1 - 1

It was just my average day living life when the world turned completely blank for me and a complete utter darkness shrouded me.

Dead!

My extremely blurry consciousness drifted through an unknown place, completely impervious to the surrounding, honestly, feeling my own weightless body was the most terrifying thing in experience.

'Where am I? Did I really die? If I really did then this is supposed to be the afterlife right?'

These thoughts terrified me to the extreme until the world suddenly brightened for me still a little blurry but my gaze could at least make out some jagged edges of shadows lingering around my vision, Is it two or three people? then my ears started twitching hearing some murmurs in completely unfamiliar language, immediately raising only one single question in my head.

'Did I transmigrate into another world?'

The language buzzing in my ears was not something my mind had even an iota of familiarity with.

A day passed just like these and my vision finally gained a bit of clarity, my gaze now glimpsed at a dilapidated household with rough patches of holes bearing on the ceiling and a lamp attached to the grim, sticky wall that dimly brightened the empty desolate room. The only other source of light was the paper window where the yellow rays of the sun could barely drift through. If in day these place was so dark then what would happen in the night?

Then my gaze shifted to the woman holding me, her face was extremely thin and rough with a malnourished figure.

'Is this my mother? Sigh, it seems like I really reincarnated to a dirt poor household and poor people are always bullied!'

But still my hope hasn't completely shattered yet. Transmigrators usually would get a system so maybe.... please....

'Yeah, I would definitely get the system, I just need to wait for it then I would finally have a chance at lifting myself up.'

That was my consolation in these cold, dilapidated, dark household.

Time passed eventually and an year went by.

The first delightful thing that happened to me was that my body could finally crawl around on the floor and... and that was it... nothing special... oh, also, my father came to give money to my mother, he was a hunched, improvised figure with hand calloused likely from years of hardships. Then another year went by, our condition didn't improve in the least but at least father stayed more in the household and played with me quite often filling me with unbridled joy. My memory was still groggy so couldn't make out much other than that.

Another year went by and finally my mother started to teach me the language of these world and knew my name:

Lu Shen.

"Lu Shen, you are such a smart boy, you will become someone great when you grow up, maybe even a cultivator, not like your father who is a herb gatherer."

One day my mother said while hugging me, Lu Shen.

"Okay, mother." Lu Shen replied with a smile.

"Haha, great my son."

His mother smiled, rubbing her eyes off the tears and going back to sewing clothes. Lu Shen was left alone on the bed contemplating on his own.

'Looks like I really transmigrated into the cultivation world.' He couldn't help but release a complete heartfelt sigh, 'And a poor household at that.'

Either way, Lu Shen needed to pat himself on the back and start to prepare for the turbulent future ahead of him. Another two years passed eventually and again there condition didn't get any better but Lu Shen did gain a bit of strength to walk around and could finally help his mother in sewing clothes and doing some minor chores but that was about it. He has never worked so hard in his previous life but now in these world it was completely filled with only hardship but he must persist through all these difficult times while wondering every time:

'When will I fucking get my system!?'

Today, he woke up early with his father, wearing the same worn and torn robes, brushing his teeth clean and adjusting the hair with his hand.

"Are you ready, Lu Shen? Today we are going to gather herbs."

"Eh, yes, father."

Lu Shen hurriedly prepared his unkempt hair and quickly followed after him.

"Hmph, remember not to be over smart like you usually do and quietly follow after me, being an herb gatherer is a difficult job."

"Yes, father."

The two quickly left the household. Outside, it was almost a vacant place without a single soul likely because the sun was just rising in the sky and the chickens were just now crying in their melody. There were numerous thatched rough houses wherever his gaze fell just like there household, some in a better condition and some in an worse condition. Lu Shen lowered his head and quietly followed after his father through the streets and eventually reached the entrance barricaded by wooden walls, there was a crooked man with one of his teeth missing sitting right at the entrance, when he saw my father, a wide grin drew on his face.

"Lu Zhen, it seems you are up early as always."

"Haha, Old Lu, if I don't arrive early, the good stuff would long be taken by the other herb gatherers already." Lu Zhen spoke with a hearty laugh.

"Hmph still you barely make ends meet, what are you proud of? If you didn't marry your wife and simply listened to my advice, you would still be free." Old Lu's meaningful gaze particularly bore on Lu Shen right behind Lu Zhen.

Lu Shen directly hid behind his father.

"Haha, you don't need to be scared child, this Old Lu just looks crooked but is quite friendly." Lu Zhen chuckled, patting his head.

'This man is quite strange...'

Lu Shen narrowed his eyes.
