Chapter four:
"Oh no you don't! No way!" Said Lex Luthor.
Scarecrow then knelt down beside Brock to administer the antidote this his toxin, as Lex Luthor vented.
"I refuse to work with you Gotham villains! You psychoses makes you unpredictable, and you have a habit of stabbing people in the back.... metaphorically and literally." Replied Lex Luthor.
"I take offense to that, Luthor. I am nothing like the rest of them." Said Scarecrow.
"Oh, please!" Replied Lex Luthor.
"It's true. What the doctor's of Arkham consider instantly is merely a strong passion for my research into the power of fear." Said Scarecrow.
"Right. And the Joker just wants to make people laugh." Replied Lex Luthor.
"Oh, you can't tar us all with the same brush as him, even the rest of Gotham can't bear that deranged clown!" Said Scarecrow.
Scarecrow then placed his hands on Lex Luthor's desk as he reached it.
"Besides.... unlike him I have no qualms in working with those of greater power.... It tends to bear the greatest fruit." Replied Scarecrow.
"And what fruit do you hope to gain from this? Money? Notoriety?" Said Lex Luthor.
"Proof." Replied Scarecrow.
"Proof? Of what?" Said Lex Luthor.
"Proof in my research. Proof of the overwhelming influence that our fears have in how we think, act and live." Replied Scarecrow.
"Wait.... You want to use your fear toxins on Overgirl?" Said Mercy Graves.
Scarecrow then looked at her.
"A ridiculous notion. As if she would have any fears!" Replied Lex Luthor.
"Why wouldn't she? Fear motivates everyone even someone as powerful as her." Said Scarecrow.
Lex Luthor then rolled his eyes at him.
"Think of it this way, how many times have you tried to get Overgirl by kidnapping Jimmy Olsen? Don't you think this fear of loosing him is what moviated her to fight for him?" Replied Scarecrow.
"He has a point." Said Mercy Graves.
Lex Luthor then looked at her before looking at Scarecrow.
"Ok, so Overgirl has fears.... but how does that help me turn Metropolis against her?" Replied Lex Luthor.
"Think back to those times that Overgirl has confronted you. How would you describe her behavior?" Said Scarecrow.
"How do you think?" Replied Lex Luthor.
"Angry?" Said Scarecrow.
"Yes of course, she was angry! What of it?" Replied Lex Luthor.
"Don't you see? Overgirl's fear manifests fear itself as anger, most likely due to the powers she possesses and her constant need to play the unbeatable villain." Said Scarecrow.
"I'm losing patience here, Scarecrow. What's your point?" Replied Lex Luthor.
"My point is that all you have to do to turn Metropolis against her, is get her so scared, so angry, that she becomes unstoppable, and destructive force of power." Said Scarecrow.
"And how do you purpose we do that?" Replied Lex Luthor.
"Well.... I trust you to remember Darkseid's invasion?" Said Scarecrow.
"Who doesn't." Replied Mercy Graves.
"Well.... Then you'll remember how dark a day that was. Here was a powerful alien overlord, his power and presence greater than that of any evil before him, and everyone knew it.... including Overgirl." Said Scarecrow.
Scarecrow then marched towards Lex Luthor.
"See I watched the news from my comfy cell, and I was reading her body language and behavior. The influence of fear was overpowering, she was so scared that day, the most scared she had ever been in her life." Replied Scarecrow.
"Scared of what?" Said Lex Luthor.
"Of losing. Darkseid was easily the most powerful enemy she had ever faced, and there was the very real possibility that she die that day, along with everyone on the planet. Superwoman was afraid of that possibility, of failing the planet she had sworn to protect." Replied Scarecrow.
"And it was that fear that forced her to use all of her strength to fight Darkseid." Said Lex Luthor.
"Exactly! So, if we can just get her to relieve that day, or better yet, make her believe that it actually has happened." Replied Scarecrow.
"Oh, she would be furious! All the anger, she could easily tear this city apart!" Said Lex Luthor.
Scarecrow then smiled at him.
"But wait.... even if that does turn them against her, how does that help me get back on top?" Replied Lex Luthor.
"Oh come on now, Luthor, you're supposed to be intelligent! Once the crowd sees how Overgirl has turned against them, they'll be begging for someone to stop her." Said Scarecrow.
"And that's where I come in. I can gather a team together, some of her most powerful villains, and together they'll bring Overgirl down!" Replied Lex Luthor.
"And then you will be the hero of Metropolis once again!" Said Scarecrow.
Lex Luthor then rubbed his hands together.
"I take it, then, that you are willing to do business?" Replied Scarecrow.
"Ok, hold on a second! Mercy." Said Lex Luthor.
"I'm sorry, Lex, but I don't trust him. I mean if this plan could work, what about the very real danger of you being exposed as an accomplice?" Replied Mercy Graves.
"You really should have more faith in your employer. I'm sure Mr. Luthor can cover his tracks well, he's done so successfully this far." Said Scarecrow.
"Well....why do you need his help anyway? If all you want is to show how Superwoman would react to fear, why not carry out the plan yourself?" Replied Mercy Graves.
"It's quite simple, actually. Overgirl has a high resistance to all forms of poisons and serums, including my fear toxins. The only way to successfully infect Superwoman would be to weaken this resistance, and the best known method for that would be." Said Scarecrow.
"Kryptonite." Replied Lex Luthor.
"Excellent. The android known as Metallo can weaken her, whilst I administer the toxin, and from there....we watch the terror unfold." Said Scarecrow.
"Fantastic." Replied Lex Luthor.
Scarecrow then grasped his hand.
"Keep it turned on at all times, and I'll be in touch." Said Lex Luthor.
"You have yourself a deal." Replied Scarecrow.
Scarecrow then gave a small bow, before turning and walking towards the door. As he passed Brock, who was now sitting in the corner, the muscle man cowered. This was noticed by Scarecrow, who chuckled as he left through the door.
