Chapter ten:
"Superwoman?" Said Perry White.
Looking, up Kara Danvers was momentarily thrilled to see a disheveled Perry White standing before her.
"Perry.... I'm sorry.... He's dead." Replied Kara Danvers.
She laid down Jimmy's body, before wiping her tears away and rising to her feet to approach Perry White.
"Perry....at least you're." Said Kara Danvers.
Before she could finish, Perry White raised his hand and slapped her across the face. However, while this barely affected Kara Danvers, it shattered his wrist, and he screamed in agony.
"Perry! Let me take a look at." Replied Kara Danvers.
"Don't you touch me! You've done enough damage!" Said Perry White.
"Perry, I." Replied Kara Danvers.
"Look! Look at Metropolis! Look at Jimmy! All of this is your fault!" Said Perry White.
"Perry." Replied Kara Danvers.
"Why couldn't you stop him? Answer me that! You were able to stop him before, why couldn't you this time? Answer me Overgirl, answer me!" Said Perry White.
"What are you talking about? Stop who?" Replied Kara Danvers.
"Me." Said Darkseid.
Kara Danvers looked up as Perry White turned around. A large, imposing figure stood before them, with gray rock skin and crimson red eyes. His armor was metallic blue and covered all but his arms, legs and face.
"Darkseid." Replied Kara Danvers.
"Hello again, Kara Danvers." Said Darkseid.
Kara Danvers initial shock turned to anger, as she darted towards Darkseid ready to strike. However, somehow she was unable to make contact, and when she came to a halt, she turned to face Darkseid a few feet away from her.
"You did this!" Replied Kara Danvers.
"Oh, come now, Overgirl. Even if I could cause this much damage in a short amount of space of time were it not for you." Said Darkseid.
"What do you want?" Replied Kara Danvers.
"You were challenging. I suppose, but no real challenge. I almost felt embarrassed for you, heralded as the world's greatest villain, and you lasted seconds while you faced my might." Said Darkseid.
"What I don't?" Replied Kara Danvers.
"Remember? I'm not surprised you must have flew across the city with that final blow. I imagine it must have been painful." Said Darkseid.
Kara Danvers looked around the ruins of Metropolis. It was possible, she thought, it could not be real, and yet.
"Your pathetic facade of heroism has come to an end. Metropolis is dead, and it is you the people will hold accountable. You, who failed them when they needed you most!" Replied Darkseid.
"No....No!" Said Kara Danvers.
"Not convinced yet. Perhaps this will confirm it." Replied Darkseid.
Darkseid's eyes began to glow red, and Kara Danvers steadied herself for an attack. However, Darkseid then turned his head around, and lasers shot out of his eyes, traveling in a zizag manner towards Perry White.
"Aahh.....!"
Perry White's curly screamed lasted only a second as the lasers struck him, before his body turned to ash.
"Nooo!" Said Kara Danvers.
Kara Danvers sped over and knelt down beside the small mound, speechless with shock.
"Now you see Overgirl. Now you see the horror that you caused." Replied Darkseid.
"No." Said Kara Danvers.
"And now, the world will suffer the same fate as this city, all because of you." Replied Darkseid.
"Noooo!" Said Kara Danvers.
With remarkable speed, Kara Danvers rose and flew towards Darkseid. However, just as she made contact, Darkseid vanished, almost in a blink of a eye.
"You see?" Replied Darkseid.
Kara Danvers looked up to see Darkseid standing twenty feet away.
"Even now, when I have taken everything from you, you still can't kill me." Said Darkseid.
"Wanna bet?" Replied Kara Danvers.
Kara Danvers sped towards him, but again, Darkseid vanished has Kara Danvers struck him.
"How pathetic." Said Darkseid.
Kara Danvers turned her head, and turned in shock as multiple clones of Darkseid now mocked her from several points across the ruins.
"You're weak, Overgirl. A unworthy specimen, powerless to save the world she swore to protect." Replied Darkseid.
"You want power? I'll show you power!" Said Kara Danvers.
Kara Danvers darted from Darkseid to Darkseid, forcing them to vanish with clenched fist and projectiles of the carcasses of vehicles. However, as she destroyed one clone, another seemed to replace it.
Minutes later Kara Danvers collapsed to the ground, as the Darkseid clones continued to mock and scold her. Kara Danvers buried her head in her hands, as the echoing voices rang in her head.
"Aaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrgggghhhhh!"
