Chapter 14: Clash of Cataclysms
Up until now, Uchiha Akira's relentless assault had prevented Yūrei from stabilizing enough chakra to form a Tailed Beast Bomb, an S-rank technique of devastating power. But Akira's last lightning-infused punch had created just enough distance and time.
Seeing the half-beast begin to condense the terrifying black sphere, a cold smirk touched Akira's lips. "Let's see which is faster… your bomb, or my lightning."
Crackling with electricity, he launched himself vertically into the air, high above the burning battlefield and the churning black clouds.
"Lightning Release: Sword of Thunderous Judgment!"
He raised his right hand skyward. A single, brilliant arc of lightning shot from his fingertips, vanishing into the heart of the roiling thundercloud above.
The cloud responded as if awakened. Endless bolts of lightning flashed within its depths, converging instantly above Akira. The intertwined thunderbolts fused, forging a colossal sword of pure, crackling energy that spanned a hundred meters across the darkened sky. It hung there, a weapon of divine wrath.
"That… that level of Lightning Release…"
On the secondary battlefield, where Might Dai and the others had just finished subduing the remaining Mist jonin, all eyes were drawn upward. The sight of the thunder-sword defied comprehension. Even veterans of the Third Great War had never witnessed ninjutsu of such sheer, terrifying scale.
Hyuga Kamon, his Byakugan fixed on the distant epicenter, spoke with grave urgency. "The Six-Tails Jinchuriki… he's completed the half-beast transformation. He's gathering a Tailed Beast Bomb!" He tore his gaze away, looking at his comrades. "We need to pull back, now! The fallout from either of those attacks will reach us here. We will be caught in it."
No sooner had he spoken than the gargantuan thunder-sword in the distant sky seemed to vanish.
Simultaneously, Kakashi's hands were already moving. "Earth Release: Multiple Earth-Style Walls!" He slammed his palms to the ground. With a series of deep groans, multiple thick, towering walls of earth erupted around their position, forming a defensive enclosure.
Back at ground zero, Uchiha Akira, now in a controlled descent, swept his raised hand downward.
The hundred-meter Sword of Thunderous Judgment, having seemingly disappeared, performed a lightning-fast teleportation—a property of the technique itself. It rematerialized directly above the Six-Tails Jinchuriki, Yūrei, who had nearly completed the condensation of his dark, swirling Tailed Beast Bomb and was tensing to fire.
KA-BOOOOOOOOOM!!!!
An explosion that seemed to split the world apart tore through the air. The thunder-sword descended, a river of annihilation. Endless lightning erupted on impact, shattering the landscape. For a moment, the entire world was bleached a blinding, violent white.
BOOM-BOOM-BOOOOOM!!!!
An even more catastrophic detonation followed. The unstable Tailed Beast Bomb, struck at its moment of release, exploded prematurely.
Light and heat of unimaginable intensity bloomed, first swallowing the storm of lightning, then expanding outward. A colossal mushroom cloud clawed its way into the heavens. The very earth buckled and liquefied, surging outward in waves of molten debris and concussive force.
Everything within a kilometer of the impact was scoured, vaporized, or flattened by the apocalyptic fusion of nature's lightning and a tailed beast's fury.
Miles away, with the convoy, Might Guy and his friends stared, slack-jawed, at the horizon. The shockwave that hit them moments later was like a physical wall, a Category 10 typhoon. Had they not hastily erected earthen barriers to break the wind, the wounded would have been scattered like leaves.
"Guy… did you see that?" Ebisu whispered, nudging his friend.
"What kind of enemy… forces someone to use a technique like that?" Genma muttered around his senbon, his usual lazy demeanor utterly gone.
"It has to be the tailed beast… that chakra column earlier…" Guy said, his voice hushed.
The wounded soldiers and medics buzzed with a mix of awe and fear. The light show and the earth-shaking roar were undeniable.
"Have faith in our Konoha jonin!"
"It's the Uchiha and Hyuga out there! We'll be fine!"
Despite the brave words, every eye remained locked on the distant, glowing horizon where the mushroom cloud slowly dissipated.
Nearer the blast zone, behind Kakashi's earth walls, the jonin felt the energy storm scream past. Might Dai and Kakashi exchanged a tense, worried glance.
"Karumon, what's happening over there?" Ryu Chiba demanded, turning to the Hyuga.
Hyuga Kamon's Byakugan veins pulsed. His face paled. "It's bad… The Kirigakure Jinchuriki has lost control. The Six-Tails… it's broken the seal. It's running wild."
The news hit the group like a physical blow. A fully manifested tailed beast was a disaster on a different scale. Few jonin could hope to even inconvenience one. Among them, only Might Dai in his ultimate form stood a chance.
"The Six-Tails is free?!" Chiba Ryu gasped.
Karamon swallowed hard, his voice strained. "It's the truth. The Jinchuriki… at the critical moment, he must have released the seal completely…"
"What's the plan?" Karamon asked, looking to the others.
"We support Uchiha-kun, then execute a full retreat. A full tailed beast is beyond our paygrade," Might Dai stated, his tone leaving no room for argument.
"Can we summon Lord Minato? This is clearly an S-rank crisis," Chiba Ryu suggested, looking at Kakashi.
Kakashi shook his head. "Sensei's contract is with the toads of Mount Myōboku. Mine is with the ninja dogs. We have no way to signal him directly."
"Wait…" Hyuga Kamon interrupted, his voice laced with disbelief. "Dai… we might not need to go. The Six-Tails… it seems to have stopped. Uchiha Akira… he's looking at it. With his Sharingan."
"What?!" The exclamation was unanimous. The legend of Uchiha Madara controlling the Nine-Tails with his eyes flashed in all their minds.
Kakashi's visible eye widened. "The Sharingan… can truly dominate a tailed beast…?"
"That's… a relief," Might Dai breathed out, some of the tension draining from his shoulders.
Meanwhile, Uchiha Akira walked out from the edge of the shattered forest, his clothes singed, light burns marking his skin. The thunder-sword technique had been executed by a Shadow Clone—a necessary precaution for a technique with a kill-zone of a kilometer. The clone had paid the price.
The battlefield was now a smoldering crater hundreds of meters across. At its center stood the true form of the Six-Tails: a massive, slug-like creature with a pale, bluish-white body covered in viscous mucus, six tails swaying behind it. Large patches of its hide were scorched black from the cataclysmic explosion moments before.
"So, at the critical moment, the Six-Tails broke the seal…" Akira murmured, his scarlet Sharingan narrowing. Yūrei was undoubtedly dead, caught between his own Tailed Beast Bomb and the heavenly lightning. Whether he chose to break the seal in a final, desperate act, or the beast itself shattered the weakened bonds upon sensing its vessel's demise, the result was the same: a complete tailed beast, free and enraged.
Seeing Akira approach, the Six-Tails—Saiken—let out a low, guttural growl that vibrated through the crater.
Looking at the furious titan, Akira's smirk returned. "While you were sealed inside a host, there was little I could do to you directly. But now that you're out here in the open… this is perfect."
The three tomoe in his left eye spun violently, dissolving and reforming into the distinct, interconnected sickle-blade pattern of the Mangekyō Sharingan—the eye of Kamui.
In an instant, its power locked onto the towering beast.
The growling Six-Tails froze. Its immense form seemed to petrify. All movement ceased. The raging consciousness of the tailed beast grew still, its will submerged under an overwhelming, ocular force. It stood there, a colossal statue, blank and obedient.
