Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Nature’s Wrath

Chapter 13: Nature's Wrath

Uchiha Akira moved. He launched himself high into the air, his hands a blur as they formed the necessary seals mid-ascent.

"Fire Release: Great Fire Annihilation!"

A massive surge of chakra condensed in his chest. He exhaled, and a colossal fireball, tens of meters in diameter and burning with the fury of a falling meteor, plummeted toward the transformed Jinchuriki below.

GRRROOAAAH!

The half-beast Yūrei let out a guttural roar. In this state, intricate water jutsu were beyond him. Instead, he opened his distorted maw wide, inhaling deeply. The dark red tailed beast chakra around him surged like a violent tide, converging into his throat.

He exhaled violently.

A light red bubble of condensed tailed beast chakra shot forth, a projectile of immense density and power. It met the descending super-fireball head-on.

KABOOOOOM!!!

The collision was apocalyptic. The giant fireball detonated prematurely under the chakra bubble's impact. The sky itself seemed to rupture, scattering beams of flame in every direction like the petals of some catastrophic, blooming flower. The intense crimson light dyed the heavens.

Showers of sparks and burning debris rained down, instantly igniting the dry woodland for hundreds of meters in every direction. A roaring sea of fire now formed the arena for their duel.

The sheer scale of the explosion drew the attention of every fighter on the distant secondary battlefield. Eyes flicked toward the conflagration.

"What a terrifying clash," Hyuga Kamon muttered, his Byakugan providing him a clear, chilling view of the half-tailed beast form.

Moments later, on that secondary battlefield, several more fire dragons roared skyward from the Konoha side, further adding to the chaos.

High above Akira and Yūrei, the very atmosphere began to churn. The heat and disturbed air currents from the colossal fire techniques were having an effect. Thick, rolling black clouds gathered with unnatural speed, drawn by the thermal updrafts.

The secondary battlefield, however, was now shrouded in a dense, white mist. The Kirigakure ninja had coordinated to cast a powerful Hiding in Mist Technique, saturating the area with chakra-laden fog to neutralize the visual advantages of the Byakugan and Sharingan, creating a home-field advantage.

A sound plan, in theory. But reality was harsher. While the Mist ninja were more accustomed to fighting in fog, their Konoha opponents were genuine elites, their raw skill surpassing that of the average Mist jonin. They had trained for such disadvantages.

Within the thick white blanket, Konoha's three jonin adapted. They didn't rush to finish their opponents; they became patient hunters, waiting for openings.

In one sector of the fog, a boiling green light erupted. Might Dai's chakra blazed, the intense energy of the Sixth Gate radiating outward and physically dispersing the mist in a dozens-meter radius around him.

"HAH!"

With a sharp exhalation, Dai's fists became a storm. He lashed out in all directions, the sheer speed and friction of his punches igniting the air and burning away more of the obscuring vapor.

THUD! CRACK! AAGH!

Several pained cries echoed as unseen attackers were struck. As the mist cleared around Dai, it revealed several Mist ninja, blades drawn, caught mid-charge.

Their horrified eyes widened as Dai, without breaking stride, transformed into a streaking comet of green light. He moved through them.

The sounds that followed were brutal and brief: the sharp snap of breaking bones, cut-off screams. In moments, nine Kirigakure shinobi lay motionless on the cleared ground.

Dai's attention was then seized by the distant, thunderous sounds of Akira's fight. He looked toward the horizon. The sky there was a madness of rolling black clouds; the earth, a hellscape of flame. A palpable, malevolent chakra seeped from the epicenter, making even Dai's seasoned heart grow heavy.

"The quality of that chakra… it's oppressive even at this distance," Dai murmured, a bead of sweat tracing his temple. "Truly a force of nature."

Shaking off the feeling, he pivoted, his form blurring as he shot toward the location of his comrade, Ryu Chiba. The plan was simple: assist the other jonin in eliminating their targets swiftly, then converge to support Akira.

Back at the main event, Uchiha Akira was engineering a cataclysm. He was using his fire release not just to attack, but to manipulate the atmosphere—creating powerful updrafts to feed the burgeoning thunderclouds above. He was setting the stage for his ultimate technique, an S-rank Lightning Release ninjutsu of his own design. Inspired by a future technique he knew of, but distinct in its final execution, it aimed to harness the raw power of nature itself.

"Fire Release: Great Fire Annihilation!" he incanted again, hands sealing. Another tsunami of flame, even wider than the last, surged across the burning landscape toward the Jinchuriki.

The heat warped the air, the blinding fire illuminating the undersides of the churning black clouds.

Even a semi-perfect Jinchuriki wouldn't recklessly tank such an inferno. With a grinding roar, Yūrei's six chakra tails plunged into the cracked earth. They coiled around a gargantuan slab of bedrock—over twenty meters long—and wrenched it free, holding it like a colossal shield before him.

The sea of fire crashed against the stone monolith, splitting into two raging torrents that streamed past on either side, feeding the existing fires in the forest behind.

As the flames subsided momentarily, the dark red chakra around Yūrei flickered. He vanished, reappearing in front of Akira with speed that would be a blur to any normal shinobi.

But Akira's eyes were not normal. The Sharingan tracked every micro-movement.

"Lightning Release: Thunder Spike!" Akira's palm crackled, a concentrated spear of lightning forming in his grip. He didn't retreat; he met the charge head-on, driving the lightning spear forward.

"ROAR!"

The half-beast's eyes flared crimson. It didn't dodge. A massive, chakra-clad arm swung to meet the lightning strike.

BOOM-CRACKLE!

Dazzling blue-white lightning and violent dark red chakra clashed, each claiming half of the visible space between them in a storm of opposing energies.

In the stalemate, Yūrei acted. The six tails behind him coiled, then shot forward like spears.

THWIP-THWIP-THWIP!

They pierced straight through Uchiha Akira's torso.

But before any triumph could register in Yūrei's bestial mind, the "Akira" he had impaled dissolved with a violent ZZZRT! into a sphere of uncontrolled, exploding lightning that engulfed him.

It was a Lightning Clone.

The real Uchiha Akira materialized beside the momentarily shocked Jinchuriki in a flash of light. His entire body thrummed with boiling chakra. His fist, sheathed in a concentrated vortex of lightning, slammed down with the force of a thunderclap onto Yūrei's chakra-shrouded chest.

The impact was monumental. The half-tailed beast form was launched backward like a cannonball, tearing a fiery path through the burning forest for a hundred meters before crashing to a halt.

An enraged, earth-shaking roar erupted from the heart of the flames. The tailed beast chakra around Yūrei exploded outward in a violent pulse, clearing a perfect, scorched circle over ten meters wide.

Then, the Jinchuriki tilted his head back. His jaw distended unnaturally, dislocating with a sickening crack to form a cavernous maw. Visible streams of purple-black and blue chakra—the raw, negative and positive energies of the tailed beast—flowed into the gaping void.

There, at the convergence point, a sphere of absolute black began to form, distorting the light around it.
