Chapter 15: A Beast's Leash
The facts were now undeniable. The Mangekyō Sharingan's legendary power to dominate tailed beasts was not a myth, but a terrifying reality. With the enhanced ocular power granted by transplanted Senju Hashirama cells, Uchiha Obito could even control a perfect Jinchuriki like Yagura. The mighty Nine-Tails itself had fallen under the Sharingan's sway in the past.
Akira hadn't undergone such a transplant. His ocular power wasn't on the level of a near-Eternal Mangekyō. But the Six-Tails was not the Nine-Tails. And now, with its Jinchuriki dead, Saiken was in a wild, uncontrolled state—a perfect target for a master of the Mangekyō.
With the beast held in the thrall of his illusion, Akira's brow furrowed. 'The drain… it's immense,' he thought, feeling a familiar, creeping strain behind his left eye. 'This is just the Six-Tails. If it were the Nine-Tails, it might break free instantly.'
The Kyuubi was in a league of its own. While an ordinary Mangekyō could subdue the others, the Nine-Tails' sheer will and power presented a different challenge. By Akira's estimation, with his single Mangekyō's current strength, he could maintain control over the Six-Tails for a maximum of three minutes. After that, his ocular power would be depleted, and Saiken would inevitably shatter the genjutsu and plunge into a mindless rampage.
'What now?'
He stared at the immense creature, a problem of monumental scale now chained by his will. Three minutes was nowhere near enough time to transport it back to Konoha. If Minato were here, they could attempt it, perhaps have Kushina perform a sealing on the spot. But he wasn't. The situation was stuck in an impossible limbo.
'Kill it?' Akira considered, stroking his chin. 'Unlikely. Three minutes isn't enough to generate the thunderclouds for that technique again. And even that might not finish it off.' His expression turned conflicted. Of course, there was another option—using the Kamui ability of his left Mangekyō. But that came at a direct cost to the eye itself, accelerating its blindness. He was hesitant to pay that price.
'Do I kill it, or just release it and let it run wild?'
As he wrestled with the dilemma, a familiar surge of green chakra announced an arrival from behind.
It was Might Dai, the aura of the Sixth Gate—Gate of Joy—still flickering around him. He was the first to return at such blistering speed.
"Uchiha-kun! That was… incredible!" Dai exclaimed, flashing a brilliant, relieved smile. "To think even a tailed beast is no match for you! The Sharingan truly is a bloodline limit of awe and terror!"
Akira shook his head, his tone deadly serious. "Senior Dai, listen. I can't hold it for long. Three minutes, maximum. You need to get the wounded evacuated. Now. The farther, the better."
"What?" Dai's smile vanished, replaced by grim understanding. "Understood. I'll get them moving immediately."
Without another word, Might Dai's body blurred. He became a streak of green light, reversing course and shooting back toward where Kakashi and the others were approaching.
His voice, propelled by chakra, reached them before he did. "Karumon! Kakashi! Chiba! Fall back! We need to evacuate the wounded! Uchiha-kun can only hold the beast for three minutes! We have to get them to a safe distance now!"
"What?!"
The news halted Kakashi and the others in their tracks. Three minutes. It was a brutally short window against a potential catastrophe. Without hesitation, they abandoned their advance and spun around, sprinting with all their speed back toward the Konoha convoy. Every second counted. A rampaging tailed beast, even a slow-moving one, could cover vast ground. And its Tailed Beast Balls had a range measured in kilometers.
Dai, Kakashi, and the others could run. Uchiha Akira could not. If he broke his gaze, the Six-Tails would awaken instantly.
'Damn it…' Akira muttered under his breath as he felt the psychic struggle intensify. The beast's primal will thrashed against his mental bonds.
'If only I'd had time to properly study sealing arts…' he lamented. For an Uchiha with the Sharingan's perfect mimicry, learning sealing techniques was not inherently difficult—copy the hand seals, replicate the chakra patterns. But sealing had never been a priority for the Uchiha clan, obsessed as they were with the direct power of their eyes and fire techniques. On the brutal battlefields of the past year, there had been no leisurely time for scholarly pursuit.
If his sealing prowess were advanced enough now, he could attempt to seal Saiken into himself, becoming its Jinchuriki. With the Mangekyō, he could force its compliance with a glance. The benefits were obvious—a near-bottomless well of chakra, a power boost of unimaginable scale. His own reserves, while vast, were a puddle compared to the ocean of a tailed beast.
'I can't just walk away empty-handed after all this,' he thought, frustration warring with practicality. 'It's controlled. Letting it go would be a colossal waste.'
His mind raced. Then, an idea struck. He appeared in a flash of lightning behind the motionless titan. Concentrated lightning chakra coalesced around his hand, extending to form a shimmering, razor-sharp blade of pure energy.
With a swift, clean motion, he swept the blade across one of the Six-Tails' massive, trailing appendages.
SHLICK.
A segment of the tail, several meters long, was cleanly severed. Akira quickly produced a sealing scroll from his pouch—a high-capacity, expensive model capable of storing organic matter. He sealed the massive chunk of tailed beast flesh inside. The scroll bulged at its limit; this was all it could hold.
It was a pity. He would have liked more, but he only carried one such scroll.
'A waste… to leave a whole tailed beast behind,' he sighed, preparing to make his own retreat as the three-minute mark approached.
Then he stopped.
A new, audacious thought exploded in his mind. 'Wait… Uchiha Madara… he forced the Nine-Tails to submit, made it his summon…'
He looked at the pale, mucus-dripping form of Saiken.
'Could I… do the same?'
Force the Six-Tails to become his summoning creature. The idea was insane, brilliant, and perfectly timed. It solved the storage problem. It solved the transportation problem. It meant he wouldn't have to kill it or abandon it.
A fierce, determined light ignited in his Mangekyō Sharingan. He had a new plan for the remaining two minutes.
