After nearly an hour, the demon finally stepped out of the bar. Thankfully, this time he was alone. The moment I saw him, I reached into my pocket and pulled out a pair of ski masks and handed one to Sophia. She didn't hesitate and quickly wore the mask, though her hands were trembling when she took it from me.
I couldn't tell if it was because of what I did or what we were going to do. I then reached into my pocket and pulled out a handkerchief.
"What is that for?" Sophia asked, looking a bit puzzled.
"It's my weapon."
Saying that, I then focused my ability on the handkerchief just like the many times I had practiced before. The handkerchief immediately dissolved into a ball of liquid, then it took on a metallic sheen before it finally transformed into a dagger.
The dagger was roughly seven inches long, with a curved blade. The handle was metal while the blade was 93.2% silver, 5.8% steel, and 1% Null-Iron.
It wasn't a perfect weapon. Silver was an extremely soft alloy. It could easily be bent or broken, but this could be fixed if you mixed it with steel. The problem was that this weapon didn't have nearly enough steel to counteract the downside of silver.
Which is why I made the tip of the dagger out of Null-Iron. Null-Iron was an extremely rare metal found on the planet Klipton. My father had an heirloom made from this precious metal. It was a watch which he refused to sell no matter how hard times were. Apparently, it was given to him by his father, which was given to him by my great-grandfather.
I used the analysis function of my adaptation skill to analyze the Null-Iron inside the watch, then I spent years trying to replicate it. It took years; I had to study the metal intensely and get my proficiency up to 3.0 before I could create it.
And even then, I could only add 1% of it to the weapon. Pure silver was the easiest alloy to create since it was pure and brittle, while iron was a bit harder. But neither iron nor silver could pierced the demon's skin, which was why I needed Null-Iron.
Plus, every time I used my transmutation ability, it would drain my stamina. Just creating this dagger drained my stamina by about half. I'll have to rely on whatever weapon I can create until I cultivate my soul weapon.
"Are… you okay?" Sophia asked when she saw that I was out of breath.
"Yes, I'm fine. Let's do this."
Immediately, Sophia held out her hand, and a black smoke began to form on her palm. The smoke then began to take the shape of a scythe before it dispersed, and a black scythe appeared in her hand.
'I wonder what alloy it was made from.'
I had to put that thought on hold for now as Sophia and I began following behind the demon. The rain beating on the concrete drowned out the sound of our footsteps.
At this hour, the streets were mostly empty because of the 10 p.m. curfew. For once, this wasn't because of the demons, but because of the many spikes in dungeon breaks happening this time of the year.
The demon walked for a short while before he ducked into an alleyway.
"Where is he going? Did he notice us?" Sophia asked, looking worried.
"Of course he did. We were never going to sneak up on him in the first place."
We followed him into the alleyway, and there he was, waiting for us.
When he saw us, he had a wide grin on his face.
"I won't ask why the two of you are following me. I'll just do the honor of killing you both," he said with a demonic grin on his face.
"Paimon, he is one of the few demons blessed with a demonic eyes, called the appraisal eyes. He knows all our physical stats, our skills, and even our proficiency from just a glance. That's why he didn't run. He thinks he can beat us," I whispered to Sophia, but just as I did, the demon charged at us with a speed so great I didn't even notice until he was right in front of us.
The reason why I even saw him at the last second was because my eyes adapted. My eyes took on a feline shape, almost cat-like, so I could comprehend his fast movements. He swung his fist at my head. The force behind it was enough to decapitate me.
I ducked at the last second and drove my knife forward towards his heart. He was able to see the attack and twisted his body to the side in order to evade. But what he failed to notice was Sophia. Seeing the man who murdered her parents in front of her, her anger surged.
She swung the scythe at his neck, but the demon's reflexes were too great. He leaned back to evade it, and only a few strands of hair were cut in the process. As if sensing the danger coming from Sophia, he leaped back several meters to create some space between us.
This was good. It was a major improvement. Sophia didn't freeze or cower like she did before. Now she stood tall, ready to avenge her parents. I don't even think she realizes it. In this world, there are just some people who have an innate ability for fighting. Sophia was one of them. So was the protagonist.
While I was from Earth. In my past life, I hadn't been in a lot of fights, nor was fighting a necessity, so I didn't have that natural fighting instinct. But that would have to change. I needed to adapt and mold myself into what was needed to survive this world.
Without giving the demon time to rest or analyze, she surged forward, swinging her scythe. Wielding the scythe, she wasn't half bad, but she didn't have the experience or skill to defeat this demon, which was where I came in.
With my proficiency of my transmutation skill at 3, I didn't need to touch something to change its form. With my stamina now halved, I will use the rest of my stamina to give her a fighting chance.
While she held the demon off, I closed my eyes and began focusing on the raindrops around me. Feeling the rain on my skin made it easier to imagine. I focused on the molecules in the air surrounding the raindrops.
The atmosphere was made up of 70% nitrogen, so what I needed to do was force the nitrogen to interact with the oxygen and the falling water. The result from this reaction is what is known as nitric acid!
