Chapter 33 - 33:Siren

Retherly, a small town on the outskirts of the northern dukedom. Inside an unknown small Traven.

Continuation of the interview.

"He brought that child out of the laboratory and took her directly to the duchess. The child's face had been fully healed without a single blemish. She was truly a beautiful child."

"How did the duchess react?"

"As I told you before, she adores her son. Any normal person would have been scared but she and the eldest mistress just nodded at his miracle and continued their day. They treated it as though it were normal. "

He scratched his hand even more.

"Was it really that bad?"

"Ha, from the look on your face, you don't believe me, don't you? But it gets much worse. You would expect, after all that, the young master to treat her well, right?

The person nodded in response.

"He didn't, he worked that child like a horse. She received the formal training as a maid, which was normal since she was going to serve him. But that wasn't the worst part, he would take her to the open grassland outside the mansion and make her run. And that child persevered through it all. It could only last thirty minutes, but as days turned to months, she became even better."

"Isn't that a good thing?"

The man laughed bitterly. He started go rock while his body trembled occasionally.

"No, the young master was increasing her physical strength for something much worse. He started to experiment on her body, a way to increase her strength faster, so that her body would heal faster. And the experiments worked. To top it all of the girl had monstrous talent."

"What did she help him with?"

The man's eyes went blank for a moment.

.....

"Are you really going to put that insect in the body?"

Abeloin asked curiously. After a few studies and research, I still couldn't find what those pupae I found at the county's home were.

I had tried to study it, but I couldn't get anything concrete. The pupa was some sort of virus from my study. But since I was only in the infancy of my study, I still had more to understand.

"Yes, I want to see how long they can last. I've only tested them for a short while. They're fascinating, actually. Have you never seen them anywhere?"

I picked up one from the dwindling bunch and placed it inside the brain of the unconscious slave.

"I've never seen them, won't it kill him?:

Abelion leaned closer and picked the container with the pupa inside.

"Be careful, they're attracted to anything with blood i don't want you dying this early. "

"Seriously, why would you keep them next to you?"

Abelion said dramatically as he moved them away from him but didn't put them down.

I put the pupa I had picked into the brain. It had already started to struggle the moment it smelled the blood.

The moment I placed it into the brain, it drilled inside, disappearing.

"What are his vitals?"

I asked Luna who had been standing next to me.

"They're dropping fast."

I nodded. I adjusted my Flea glasses bringing the image of the brain closer. I could see the pupa moving through the brain and leaving its eggs behind.

The flea glass was sort of a one-eyed glass magical microscope, engraved with runes that enhance imaging. It was actually a famous piece of equipment used by magicians, scholars, and alchemists.

"It's eating through his brain by following the blood vessels," I said excitedly," but I can't see how that girl managed to use them to control the countess, they seem to do more harm than good."

It was truly frustrating not knowing something. I had read through her notes many times but they were nothing but incoherent rants of a madwoman. There wasn't anything useful inside.

"Master, he's dead."

Luna's voice pulled me out of my concentration. I sighed heavily in frustration.

"How unfortunate."

I took off the glass and turned to Luna.

"Take him to another cell for observation. "

She nodded and wheeled the man out. I had already seen how they react to a dead body, but a live one never lasts long.

I left the room after Luna with Abelion following behind me.

"The siren has been hitting the glass for a while now. That was actually what I wanted to tell you when I came to see you."

Abelion said suddenly.

"Did you try to feed her?"

I asked. Since buying her i had not had the opportunity to check on her with monitoring the new baby and the experiments occupying my time.

The moment I got to the large fish tank, she swam fast towards me and came to a stop right in front of my face, her tail flicking behind her.

"You are gorgeous, you know that?"

I said while studying her. I brought my hand to the glass and smiled softly at her. She looked at me, then at my hand, before she raised her hand back and slammed it down hard on the glass where my hand was.

The force was enough to shake the whole tank. I could feel the vibration in my body from the glass. The reinforcing spell on the glass shook, and some cracks appeared in the spell.

"You're a strong one aren't you?"

I said and started to reinforce the tank again. If she could crack just one spell from hitting the glass once or twice, she would most probably break through it if left unattended.

Seeing what I was doing, she continued to hit the glass more and more. Vortex started to form in the water around her as her green hair started to glow.

'Levitate '

I floated up to the top of the closed fish tank and looked down at the forming vortex.

"Impressive, so you can control water?"

She looked up at me her eyes filled with anger.

"What's going on here?"

Abeloin, who had moved back when she started to hit the glass, shouted while pointing at the countless water vortexes in the tank.

"Its a power display or something. She's trying to break out."

I answered with an amused chuckle.

"Does she even understand what you're saying?"

Abeloin asked curiously.

"I'm not really sure since every species has its own specific language, and I've never learnt her language. "

There was never any book about sirens in the library at home or any that the language teachers had offered to teach.

"Why don't you try talking to her?"

Abelion said cautiously while looking at the tank. I nodded and landed softly on the ground before the raging siren. She was still hitting the glass angrily and the vortex was becoming bigger and bigger.

"How am I even supposed to talk with her?" I said in frustration," She's long gone."

I tried to get her attention by knocking softly on the door, but all I got was a fist aimed at me.

"You can shock her..."

Abelion said softly.

"You've really started to read my mind."

I turned to him in surprise. He was the softest and the quietest among us, so hearing his suggestion showed his growth personally.

'Lighting '

A purple spell circle appeared above her. She looked up in confusion and curiosity before she punched it again. The spell didn't shake.

A burst of lightning shot out of the circle and spread into the water.

She tried to move away frantically, but she couldn't escape the shock since she was in the water.

Her mouth opened in a silent scream before her body went limp.

"Is she dead?"

Abelion asked curiously. I shook my head.

"No, she's perfectly fine just lost consciousness. "

"Master, wouldn't it be easier if you took her out of the tank and placed her in the incubation chamber?"

Luna suggested.

"That's what I've been thinking, but the problem is her body. I'm not sure how it will react when out of the water."

I turned to look at the girl who had started to float up to the top of the water. The shock wasn't that much with how strong she was i was sure she would be awake in a few minutes.

"Prepare one of the static tanks, but place water inside. I'll carry her to it. It will take a second or two."

"Master be careful. "

Luna whispered softly as I flew to the top of the closed fish tank. The top of the fish tank was half made of glass and a defensive shield that could be broken to allow removal. It was also to allow air inside the tank without compromising safety.

"The tank is ready, young master. You can take her out."

Abelion shouted pointing at the nearest incubation tank. He must have moved a new one there.

I waited until she was almost at the top before breaking the spell on a small part exactly where she was. I leaned to pull her out.

"Master she's awake!"

Luna shouted the exact thing I had noticed when I leaned in.

'Funny, I got tricked'
