Chapter 20 - Black Plain

"Team by team climb on that platform. It will automatically pull you inside. Do it fast. It will be open for only 10 minutes." Aelith spoke.

They were already gathered according to their teams so immediately groups of five Latents moved and climbed on the stone platform and as expected they disappeared.

Group by group Latents kept moving and disappearing and when Kael and his group got their turn they moved too. They were dead last among the groups.

Their group still consisted of only four of them. Surprisingly enough Aelith never said anything about assigning anyone to their group.

When they reached the platform Elara spoke. "Don't die before we all meet again."

This was the last words Kael heard when he felt his vision change and he fell on his back.

THUDDD!

'Not the entrance I was expecting.' Cold to the point of almost chilling wind hit his face. Not to mention their speed was tremendous. 'So this world is also going through winter huh.'

He was facing up and was looking towards the clear sky. It was a darker shade of blue than Earth's atmosphere and there were two suns shining with faint brilliance. It seemed to be evening right now.

He immediately sat down and a vast black plain entered his eyes. The surface was coarse yet filled with black grass. As far as he could see only black plain entered his eyes before he only saw clouds after a certain point as if the land vanished. Cliff?

He could also see two folded pillars. As if they were used to hold this land in the air or something. Quite strange.

What kind of land was this and why the hell was the wind blowing so fast?

He stood up and looked towards the sudden ending of the plain and turned to his left and right to see only similar views and a few more pillars and when he turned to his back he finally saw something different.

A little distance away from him was a crater. 'Don't tell me that I would find a village in this crater too...' He immediately remembered his Genesis trial.

He decided to check just in case it was true. When he walked on the ground he noticed something else. It was quite soft but if he tried to push even a little it hardened immediately.

He didn't pay much attention to it and made his way to the crater and when he came to the edge and saw inside his eyes widened. "What the—"

This wasn't a crater but a big wide hole and through it what he saw was enough to tell him one thing. The place he was standing was at least thousands of meters above the ground.

All he could see was clouds and a sprawling city in the distance from his location. "Is it a floating island or something—"

Suddenly his eyes went to a golden shining platform which seemed to be exactly below this hole. He would have thought that the gold platform was also floating if not for the fact there was an actual crater just below it. Suddenly it hit him.

He looked at the walls of the wide hole he was standing on and trembled inside. If his guess was correct then that gold platform was some kind of spear as big as a pillar which had struck this island creating this hole and getting embedded in the ground below.

Now he had other thoughts about this black island being an actual island. He looked at the land once more. Those black grass, the pillars holding it... if he increased his perspective according to the size then it was... 'Damn, a corrupted spider beast.'

He was standing not on an island but a dead spider beast which even after its death was standing. A spider which was thousands of meters in size. As expected how could he expect any less grand entrance given his shitty luck. "Fuck my life."

He looked towards the city just a little away from the crater the golden pillar had created. If his guess wasn't wrong then he would have to go there it seemed.

They all had agreed to meet near the most prominent structure. If he had to say the most prominent structure was this beast itself but he doubted any of them would be climbing on top of this. The next possible location was definitely this pillar.

So others might make their way to that.

Now the real issue was climbing down this beast. He could take a very simple yet little dangerous route. It was to jump through this hole and try to use Void Step on the golden pillar.

The range of his Void Step was about 100 meters but that pillar was far below that. It was dangerous because if he used Void Step then his falling speed wouldn't magically disappear and he had no doubt that he would become a meaty paste once he hit the pillar or ground.

There was one way to solve this issue though, orientation. He could change the way of his Void Step and after teleporting he would instead of moving down could move up.

'Alright let's see how it goes.'

He didn't know if he really couldn't die as there was little confusion in his head which he still wasn't able to clear. Traits were more like information about your main abilities but according to his trait he was almost undying like a direct proclamation.

He had done one experiment. It was a simple cut on his hand and to his surprise it healed immediately. This meant there was a passive ability different from his Blood Ignition which always protected him.

It wasn't true for other traits as they had only one ability in the beginning. Maybe this was what an Extreme trait was like. Nonetheless that 'almost undying' would never make him comfortable to take any stupid risks.

After thinking through he jumped.

The gravity of this world was higher than Earth's but it wasn't to the point where the difference would be too much. Maybe about double.

Strong winds hit his face and he made sure to maintain his falling posture so that he could see the approaching pillar.

In seconds his speed reached a terrifying level. It was very hard to be able to see through all this wind hitting him in the face. His eyes were filled with tears.

Nonetheless he didn't have to be totally accurate. As long as he used his ability at the perfect time he could even reach the top of the platform in two Void Steps.
