Chapter 16: Is the Terminator T-800 Considered a Threat?
LAPD patrol Unit 22 successfully apprehended Kyle Reese, the protagonist of The Terminator!
Hmm…
okay!
The protagonist is the Terminator T-800?
But the Terminator T-800 doesn't have a gender, right?
Kyle, sitting in the back seat of Unit 22, realized the problem, which is why he asked if they knew him.
However, neither the driver nor the passenger responded to Kyle.
Kyle frowned, silently wondering what these police officers meant and why they arrested him.
"My code name is 99, does the Terminator T-800 have a code name too?" Kyle's mind raced. He was now in custody, and he didn't attempt to escape.
After all, Kyle was rational!
Kyle knew very well that he was already captured, and even if he escaped, it wouldn't make much difference. Escaping wouldn't end the situation; he would still face pursuit from the LAPD.
That's why Kyle didn't consider running away.
"Unit 22, deliver target code 99 directly to the FBI. Agent Foster will handle the handover procedures," the LAPD's dispatch center relayed.
"Unit 22 received," the officer in patrol Unit 22 replied.
Listening to the exchange between the officer in Unit 22 and the dispatch center, Kyle's heart sank. Although the FBI didn't exist in the future world, Kyle had learned a great deal from his mission briefing and naturally knew what the FBI was.
However, he was already captured; what could he do?
What's meant to be will be!
FBI Los Angeles Field Office.
Marcus had received a call from the LAPD informing him that Kyle had been apprehended. After hanging up, Marcus proactively reported the situation to Richard.
After Marcus's frankness, Richard trusted him even more.
"Boss, the LAPD has captured Kyle Reese. Shall we talk to him?" Marcus inquired.
Richard didn't refuse. "Okay, arrange for him to be in interrogation room seven."
Marcus nodded knowingly. "No problem."
The surveillance and recording equipment in interrogation room seven was malfunctioning...
Marcus had reminded Richard during their previous conversation that higher-ups might try to research the Terminator T-800, which was why Richard had arranged for Kyle to be interrogated in interrogation room seven.
About half an hour later, in interrogation room seven of the FBI Los Angeles field office.
Kyle was handcuffed to the interrogation table. Marcus and Richard had arrived together; everyone else had been dismissed by Richard to avoid leaving any unnecessary complications.
Marcus and Richard sat opposite Kyle. Marcus took the initiative to speak, "Hello."
Kyle responded slightly nervously, "Hello, agent, what's going on? Why did you arrest me? I only tore off a page from a phone book."
Marcus responded knowingly, "It should be the page that includes Sarah Connor's information, right?"
"Huh?" Kyle looked at Marcus in surprise.
"You're wondering how I know?" Marcus continued, "I also know your name is Kyle Reese, and you're one of John Connor's soldiers. Hmm, which unit were you in? I've forgotten. Why don't you introduce yourself?"
Kyle, listening to Marcus's words, felt his hope drain away!
If it were just knowing he tore up the page containing Sarah Connor's contact information, that could be the result of an LAPD investigation. But Marcus knew his full name and even John Connor.
"Who exactly are you?" Kyle asked nervously.
Marcus waved his hand. "Who I am isn't important. You don't need to worry that I'm from Skynet. If I were from Skynet, would you still have the chance to talk to me?"
Kyle breathed a sigh of relief. Marcus was right!
If Marcus were from Skynet, would Kyle still be alive?
"Are you from the future too?" Kyle finally understood.
Marcus nodded slightly. "To be precise, I should be from an alternate timeline. I know the outcome of your original mission."
Kyle tensed up. "What was the result? Is Sarah dead?"
"She's not dead!" Marcus answered confidently.
Kyle breathed a sigh of relief.
"But you died!" Marcus added.
"..." Kyle was stunned.
Richard couldn't help but chuckle.
"I really died?" Kyle asked nervously.
"If things had gone according to the original timeline, you would indeed have died, but you and Sarah had a child, John Connor. However, even so, you still couldn't change the future outcome," Marcus sighed.
"Still couldn't change it?" Kyle was disappointed.
Marcus nodded firmly. "Yes, there was no way to change the future. In the timeline after yours, things were even worse; there were fewer than a million humans left in the world."
Marcus fabricated a story. "Because of Skynet's rapid technological advancements, in that timeline, Skynet's Terminators were equipped with various detection systems, including infrared thermal imaging and biosignature detectors. Terminators could easily find humans hiding in buildings. So the remaining humans were forced to live underground."
"Even so, Skynet continued to send Terminators to attack and invade underground facilities, preparing to exterminate humanity," Marcus sighed.
Richard couldn't help but ask, "Really?"
Marcus nodded seriously. "Yes!"
"Then what should we do?" Kyle asked.
"That's why I was sent here to correct the mistakes. We only have one chance. We must completely destroy the Terminator T-800 to prevent it from being studied. At the same time, Kyle, I need you to survive," Marcus explained.
Kyle understood the implication. "You mean I shouldn't contact Sarah?"
"Yes, if you don't contact Sarah, the future might be drastically different. No Terminator research, no Skynet, no future human resistance leader John Connor," Marcus said with apparent conviction.
But in reality, Marcus hoped to reverse this fate and gain more destiny points.
Kyle hesitated. "But... if Sarah and I aren't together, then there's no John Connor, and what if Skynet and the Terminator still exist?"
Marcus scoffed. "Do you think Skynet and the Terminator are that scary?"
"Aren't they?" Kyle countered.
"Actually, all the decisions made in your era were wrong. We studied those decisions and concluded that your methods were completely flawed," Marcus explained.
"It's 1984 now. Although the technology is less advanced, what threat is the Terminator T-800? It's still being overwhelmed by the authorities in this era, unable to fight back," Marcus continued.
"Boss, do you think the Terminator T-800 is difficult to deal with?" Marcus turned to Richard, introducing Kyle, "By the way, this is Richard Garrett, the FBI's Los Angeles field director."
Richard nodded to Kyle and then explained, "I don't think the Terminator T-800 is a significant threat at all!"
Yes!
What threat is the Terminator T-800?
