Chapter 15: Having Such a Tough Time!
Would the higher-ups in the Terminator world research the Terminator T-800?
The answer is a resounding yes!
In fact, this plot already exists in the Terminator sequels, where the research by authorities on the Terminator's remains led to the earlier development of Skynet.
Richard pondered for almost a minute before speaking, "What if we completely destroyed that Terminator T-800?"
"Completely destroyed?" Marcus was taken aback.
"Yes, after completely destroying it, it couldn't be researched anymore, right?" Richard said confidently.
Marcus agreed, "But completely destroying the Terminator T-800 is extremely difficult. It uses an ultra-high-strength alloy, and ordinary methods are useless against it."
"However, it's made of metal, right?" Richard added, "Our department has thermite. According to your plan, our first step is to restrain the Terminator T-800, and then use thermite to completely melt it down!"
Thermite is a mixture of aluminum powder and metal oxide. When it burns, the temperature can reach 5400 degrees Fahrenheit. At such a temperature, even a high-strength alloy would be destroyed, right?
In Terminator 2, the powerful liquid metal Terminator T-1000 was destroyed by the high-temperature molten steel in the steel mill. To prevent the chip from falling into the wrong hands, the Terminator T-800 was also melted in the molten steel.
Marcus nodded affirmatively, "This method will work!"
"Then execute it this way. I'll make the arrangements," Richard added. "By the way, to ensure 100% success, even after you use thermite on the Terminator T-800, while it's molten, have someone separate the molten Terminator T-800 to verify it's completely destroyed."
Richard is indeed very cautious!
"Okay!" Marcus agreed.
Even without Richard's instructions, Marcus would have handled it this way.
It was just past 10 a.m.
The future soldier Kyle Reese didn't act rashly; he was a true soldier, capable of analyzing the pros and cons and the current situation.
For example, even now, with Terminator T-800 listed as a threat by the authorities in 1984 and a city-wide manhunt underway, and his whereabouts still unknown, Kyle remained calm and rational, refraining from any rash actions.
Since Terminator T-800 was wanted citywide, he could certainly sit back and observe!
However, Kyle was also hesitant about one thing: should he find Sarah Connor first?
Kyle possessed accurate information about Sarah Connor, so he naturally didn't need to adopt the "eliminate all possibilities" approach like Terminator T-800.
"Even though Terminator T-800 is wanted, I should find Sarah Connor first!" Kyle secretly decided that he had to find Sarah Connor no matter what.
Even if Terminator T-800 was currently in trouble and probably didn't have time to target Sarah Connor, without the immediate threat of Terminator T-800, Kyle still wanted to find a way to be with Sarah Connor.
Otherwise, how would the future human resistance leader, John Connor, be born?
Kyle walked down the street like any other pedestrian, then casually strolled into a phone booth and started looking through the phone book. He'd seen Sarah Connor's picture and remembered what she looked like, but he didn't know her exact address, hence the need to check the phone book.
However, Kyle's seemingly innocuous behavior was actually flagged!
Following Marcus's instructions, LAPD patrol officers were focusing on phone booths. If they spotted someone looking through the phone books, they would report it.
"Calling Dispatch, Unit 22 has detected anomalies, code 99," the officer in Unit 22 reported to the LAPD's dispatch center.
"Dispatch received. Unit 22, maintain surveillance, closely monitor the target. Units 17, 21, 38, and 64 are ready to provide backup if anything unusual happens," the LAPD's dispatch center relayed.
The oblivious Kyle had no idea he was being watched by the LAPD; he was still looking through the phone book, searching for Sarah Connor's address.
If Kyle had stopped now, he might still have had a chance to escape the LAPD's net. But Kyle made a critical mistake: he tore a page out of the phone book!
Needless to say, that page contained Sarah Connor's information.
Unit 22, monitoring Kyle, immediately reported again, "Calling Dispatch, target confirmed as code 99, requesting backup!"
"Dispatch received. Proceed with caution. Special note: code 99's target is a normal human, relatively low threat level. The FBI requests capture alive," Dispatch relayed the information.
"22 received," the officer in Unit 22 responded.
Kyle tore out the page from the phone book. He was just about to leave when he saw a police patrol car approaching. Kyle suppressed the urge to turn and run, pretending to leave normally.
Kyle didn't want to antagonize the police of this era, because he had already witnessed the situation with Terminator T-800. If he antagonized the police of this era, who knew if he would end up wanted throughout the city like the T-800?
The Terminator T-800 can withstand bullets, but Kyle can't!
"Whoop whoop~"
Unit 22 pulled up, lights flashing.
Kyle forced himself to calm down, looked at the patrol car, and asked, "Hello, officer, what can I do for you?"
"Hello, sir, we just saw you damaging public property. We need you to come with us," the officer in the passenger seat replied.
"..." Kyle was speechless. He'd just torn a page from a phone book, and the police had seen it?
What terrible luck!
"Sorry, officer, I'm visiting from out of town to see family. I was afraid I wouldn't remember the address, so I tore a page from the phone book," Kyle quickly came up with an excuse.
"Whatever the reason, damaging public property is a violation. We need you to come with us to make a statement before we can release you," the officer in the passenger seat said.
The excuse of damaging public property was just a pretext to detain Kyle.
Kyle hesitated, considering the consequences of arrest.
Now that the two officers had seen his face, if they arrested him now, he would probably become wanted by the LAPD, just like Terminator T-800.
Kyle gritted his teeth and finally nodded, "Okay, officer, I'll go with you."
The officer in the passenger seat hesitated for a moment, then got out and opened the back door of the patrol car, gesturing for Kyle to get in.
The rear seats of the patrol car were specially designed, including a steel mesh separating them from the front seats, a door that could not be opened from the inside and was controlled from the driver's seat, reinforced windows, and specially strengthened seat backs.
Simply put, once you're in the back seat of a police patrol car, it's like entering a mobile holding cell; it's very difficult for an ordinary person to escape.
When Kyle sat in the back of Unit 22, the two officers inside breathed a sigh of relief.
The officer in the driver's seat immediately reported, "Calling Dispatch, Unit 22 has secured target code 99, awaiting further instructions."
Kyle, sitting in the back seat, paused, then hesitantly asked, "You know me?"
