Chapter 31 - Being Human -> A Visit to the Barracks

The unknown figure drove around for a while, thinking about the strange things he saw before his accident, he also started to think whether he should report his findings to the police or army. He would have told his friends but most people he wanted to become friends with when he joined the army were either dead or severely injured while the others who survived were never the same again.

He soon stopped making friends both at work and in his society. The unknown figure thought about his last friend as he headed towards the barracks, his last friend was his wife who had suffered tragically in what would be her last mission, he vividly remembered that day, how soft her kiss was, the sorrow in his eyes as he watched her depart, the way he felt hope when she landed her plane and how much despair he felt when he heard a gunshot - a shot that blew his wife brains off.

He gripped the staring wheel tightly while accelerating towards the barracks, he cleared his mind of all harmful thoughts and soon there was only the mission in his mind. He soon arrived at the barracks although he didn't frequently come to this base most of the time, he knew the person in charge.

He soon walked into the barracks and looked around the base at a couple of soldiers clustering together in little circles, some sat alone staring blankly at the horizon and still others had a look of fear in their eyes that seemed to say:

*Save me I can't go on.*

The unknown figure remembered how he was once like them, although he quickly came to terms with it by being antisocial and not having friends. He basked in the moment for a while before calling out to one of the soldiers, the soldier came towards him trying to look as menacing as possible.

The unknown figure didn't even notice what the soldier was doing as he asked:

"Get the Major, for me..."

Before the unknown figure finished, the soldiers burst out laughing, he then looked at the unknown figure condescendingly before looking at his fellow teammates, he relayed the message to them and they too laughed. The soldier then looked at the unknown figure to tell him that:

"You can't just order us to get the Major for you"

"The Major is a very busy person and we can't just call her for every little problem that happens to the "Citizens" of this country. "

He burst out laughing some more before continuing to say.

"It seems you don't know about the hierarchy of command, why don't I teach you a lesson you would never forget, the hard way."

The soldier moved closer and assumed a stance, waiting for the unknown figure to attack first but the unknown figure never attacked he just continued to say:

"GET, ME THE MAJOR..."

The soldier moved closer to the unknown figure while directing a punch to his face, the unknown figure grabbed the knuckles of the soldier before slamming him on the floor, impaling him on the spot, a few soldiers stopped what they were doing to attack the unknown figure.

He beat them up like they were no different from children, the few remaining soldiers had a grim expression because they soon realized that the unknown figure could have just as easily killed them with his bare hands. Without the unknown figure asking a third time, they quickly rushed into the major's office to call her.

While the soldiers outside stared at him grimly, others kept their distance, a few even offered their seats and proceeded to stand aside. The soldiers who went to call their major were already returning back with a blonde aggressive woman who had cut her long hair into a short-cut, a face holding a few scars and red lipstick, the government jacket was open to reveal the shirt worn underneath, the trouser were skin tight to greatly reveal her curves, she also wore a pair of brown boots.

When the Major saw the unknown figure, she had an expression of happiness and worry, although she tried her best not to show it as she asked:

"James, what's up?"

"It's been a minute."

"How is little Janine."

"What are you doing here?"

"Surely you didn't come to visit me and ask how my work is."

The unknown figure chuckled softly before replying:

"Hi, Leslie"

"I'll be fine."

"Janine too."

"While I'm here I might as well ask, how work is"

Leslie smiled softly and said:

"Well I'm scraping through not all of us are cut out for an early retirement"

"From what I'm seeing here you still got it (based on the amount of soldiers she saw lying on the floor)"

"Why don't we head to your office to discuss a bit about private matters."

"No, I can't stay hooked up in that office any longer, I'm famished, what do you say we grab a bite."

"Deal."

"I'll just go to get prepared and bring some things from the office."

"But before I go, my car or yours"

The unknown figure glanced at his truck, although it was a bit new considering he wiped off all the mud from the accident and replaced a few things, it wasn't the ideal vehicle to take a girl out on.

He smiled softly while replying:

"Yours."

"Ok, I'll be right back."

Leslie went into the office and returned from it a moment later, holding a small black "Louis Vuitton" hand bag.

She took out her car key and aimed it at her black Range Rover, the jeep chimed and she proceeded to enter along with the unknown figure.

She drove the jeep out of the barracks leaving some of the soldiers dumbfounded.

Some soldiers could not understand what was happening, the fact that their major didn't even question why the mysterious man broke their bones, why she decided to go out of the safe barracks to a place with the man and why she even talked to the mysterious man instead of chaining him up and putting him into a cell, was mind mind boggling.
