Chapter 3 - Anniversary Livestream

"Before we start the talk, let's welcome the President of InterCorp, Ms. Paige Hunter!" Jaquan exclaimed, the sound of applause filling the livestream for a brief moment.

"Thank you Robert." Paige said calmly, her previously stony expression shifted to a warmer one. Barely.

"Now Ms. President, I think all of our viewers are wondering, why would you be participating in this year's anniversary stream?" Jaquan asked, the Kenyan natives' question being something everyone else was wondering about.

Paige smiled a little at the camera. Despite smiling, her red eyes seemed to bore into the audience, sending slight shivers to their spines.

"Simply put, my participation is because this is a momentous moment for InterCorp. InterCorp had been around for 100 years, and in that time, it had introduced many technological innovations that improved the life of people all over the world.

From advanced green technology, allowing us, the present generation to breathe in clean air while still having access to electricity, to the AstraTab, allowing someone from say, America, to call someone in the Middle East. While it may seem trivial now, 50 years ago, such a thing would be difficult.

Now we talked about 50 years ago, that's when, what I considered, the greatest achievement of InterCorp, took place."

Jaquan took the time as President Paige took a breather, "I think I know what you are talking about. The floating cities, correct?"

 The black-haired woman nodded.

"Yes. The floating cities give us access to the ocean. Or more accurately, allow us to accommodate the world population on top of the largest expenses on Earth."

Lian Jian nodded in agreement. "It also allows the world to undergo another population boom, going from 7 billion in the year 2000, to 50 billion today."

"Still, Ms. President, such a massive population, it will be impossible to sustain it if not for other advancement."

"Of course," President Paige nodded. "Agriculture and food sectors will always be important no matter the time. Without food, it will be impossible to sustain any population.

Other forms of consumption also have to be noted as well. Transportation requires metals. Buildings require concrete and metals. AstraTab required metals and glasses. Unfortunately, resources on our planet are limited. Fortunately, advanced recycling gives us back those same resources from broken or outdated models."

"Yes Ms. President." Jaquan said almost impatiently. "But the viewers want to know what new products InterCorp will release, not our previous achievements."

One could barely spot the twitch on Paige's brows, the woman merely smiled in response.

"Of course. Now, let's go to the agriculture branch, where they managed to create a new strain of grains that could yield far superior yield-

"And now, let's go to the most important topic of the night, robotics." Jaquan said, almost yelling in fact.

"Correct," 'For the near future that is.'

"Now, I think I heard rumors that InterCorp will start to implement, well, completely use robots to replace its workforce. Does that rumor hold true?"

 "Yes," President Paige nodded.

"But Ms. President, won't that be a huge hit on the job market?" Lian Jian asked, voicing the concerns of no doubt, every single working class on the planet.

"No it won't." President Paige's quick reply took everyone by surprise.

"But Ms. President, isn't such a statement contradictory? If robots take the place of regular workers, won't they no longer have their jobs?" Jaquan pointed out a little flaw in that statement.

"If we make them fully automated, yes." The two hosts raised their brows at that.

"Won't it be fully automated?" Jaquan asked, confusion evident on his face.

"No. InterCorp was created to improve the life of the people, but at the same time, giving them the opportunity to make a living of their own, as long as they work for it. If the job market takes a hit, the latter mission would be impossible.

Instead, InterCorp will make sure that its employees; current and future, would receive training in robotics. From controlling, to repairing the different robots used. As long as they are willing to learn and adapt, the job market will not only be impacted, but have a significant boom.

Plus, as technology continues to improve, it will be possible for such robots to be controlled over vast distances, even from home."

"I see increasing production while not throwing the populace into fire, figuratively. Something InterCorp is famous for." Lian Jian nodded. It's also the reason why the company was considered the best and most likeable company in the past 50 years, a throne that no others could not hope to dethrone and likely won't.

"Plus the ability to work from home. I think many people will like that." Jaquan added.

"Unfortunately, it will take some time to create a system that allows robotics to operate from a vast distance and maintain their efficiency without controlling them. So, that's why the last topic of the day will address our method to head to such future?"

"Oh?" Jaquan and Lian Jian were surprised. The two of them thought the livestream will end with the robotics. It seem the President had another idea.

The President clapped, which was followed by two men entering the venue, while pushing what seem to be a hybrid of gaming chair and torture device.

"This is a special VR system, designed to connect with InterCorp's robotic system. Unfortunately, there were still some kinks that needed to be corrected before it could do its advertised jobs.

"However, there is one method that will give us the proper data to repair all bugs in the system itself."

"... and, what is that method, Miss President?" Jaquan asked.

"Video games," suffice to say, everyone on the planet that is not in the know, was beyond confused.
