Chapter 1 - Just Beyond My Grasp

"Maybe it's just my selfish desires after so much...but I just want everything to go my way"

______

"Finally, Can Kuro Nasaki please come to the front for introductions."

The homeroom teacher called out to the last person in the class which happened to be the aforementioned Kuro Nasaki. With a silent rise from his seat, Kuro began his slow walk to the front of the classroom. His ears picking up on subtle whispers as he made his way, though he ignored them with a mask of indifference.

Kuro stood out from the lot that attended the academy. Not only was it his piercing golden eyes, but it was his smooth skin that glowed with practical divinity, the way he carried himself despite having no actual magical prowess was that of a king. All in all, Kuro was a handsome young boy and the top student in terms of academics.

"Greetings. My name is Kuro Nasaki. I'm the son of Dr Nasaki who is the head of the scientific department."

And that concluded Kuro's speech, which he took the initiative to walk back to his seat. This earned him stares from his classmates which he continued to ignore.

Lunchtime...

"Hey Kuro, why are you sitting alone? come play"

A young red-haired girl exclaimed in childlike joy, latching onto Kuro's arm and pulling him forward, earning a slight scowl but deciding to go along with it.

"Guys, let's play with-"

The young girl began but was rudely cut off by one of the young boys quickly removing her grasp from Kuro, pulling her away.

"Stay away from mistress Aya!"

The young boy proclaimed with a scowl, though Kuro remained indifferent with a shoulder shrug. Turning around and walking away with no words being said on his end.

The young girl now mentioned as Aya, had looked on in distress and a hint of anger. Unfortunately, she knew there was nothing that could be done unless she became an adult or so someone of higher status were to marry her and change the hierarchy.

"My lady, you are a magic prodigy. You cannot be seen with someone like him, regardless of the fact he is one of the top students academically. A waste of potential if you ask me"

The boy proclaimed with a slight shake of his head, disappointment flashing across his face at turning down such a smart person.

 Meanwhile...

"Do you really think it's a good idea to give only two boy's so much power?"

A distorted pitch rung out in different frequencies though it made out a simple sentence that exuded curiosity.

"It'll be interesting."

The Present...

The end of the academy had been marked by the final bell, allowing students to finally go home and relax unless they were student council members or club members. Kuro was seen exiting the academy through a hidden path, his head covered by a hood and his backpack safely secured on his back as he traveled.

"Hey kid! let's get this over with and hand over your things"

A random older teen boy exclaimed from seemingly nowhere with a group of people to support his bullying. Kuro on the other hand ignored them and continued walking but soon after, he was grabbed by the assailants and thrown to the ground and stomped out.

"Piece of shit. I told you."

The boy that initiated the robbery proclaimed, taking the backpack and emptying its contents, scooping it up and walking away.

"At least he left the bag"

Kuro proclaimed with a struggled chuckle, standing up with shaky legs despite the beating and picking up the bag. A scowl of anger displayed on his face as he walked home.

"This suck. I wish I had the power to become the strongest"

Kuro exclaimed and moments after, he had tripped over something thick and fell face first. A small groan of displeasure escaping his lips, though he still stood up unbothered by the additional injuries.

"What's this? A life beyond the star? looks cool, might as well take it"

Kuro exclaimed with glee at finding something that appeared ancient, shifting his entire mood. Soon enough, Kuro made it to his single home apartment his parents left for him as way to make up for abandoning him.

With a subtle sigh, Kuro opened the door and closed it right behind him immediately. The thick book held firmly under his armpit, allowing Kuro to slip his shoes off and walk further into the home, eventually reaching the main room.

With nothing else to do, Kuro sat the book onto the table in front of him and slipped off his empty backpack. His golden eyes shun with gleeful curiosity and when he opened it to reveal the contents. It was empty on every page, until the very last one.

"So, these pages are endless and what I write becomes real with enough structure and inspiration. This is exactly what I've needed"

Kuro exclaimed in pure joy, grabbing a feather and ink. After calming down, Kuro sat down in front of the book and began writing his life story but with a few subtle alterations.

Nothing happened which made Kuro doubt the credibility of the book but when he touched it, a bright flash struck his vision and moments later everything was back to normal, but the book was gone and his golden eyes now had small open books as pupil replacements.

"Now what do I do?"

Kuro exclaimed aloud to no one in particular, but his question was answered when a streak of whizzing light struck past his face at such an intense speed, it opened a tiny wound on his cheek ad drew blood.

Kuro stared on with indifference but on the inside, he was sweating bullets and nearly dying. His eyes wondered over to the hole in his home wall and sighed, exiting the front door to confront the individual who did such an act of aggression.

"Other people live here to, please be mindful of that"

Kuro stated as calmly as he could with his stone face of indifference, his golden eyes peering into the individual responsible for such destruction.

"It won't matter once you're my puppet"

A woman voice called out, her tone was a bit rough though still held its femininity. Then she stepped from out of the shadows, her raven black hair reflecting its smoothness from the sunlight that danced across it. What caught Kuro attention wasn't the perfectly fitted pink & black knee-length length dress, but her hot pink eyes and twin pair of long slick demonic horns that protruded from the top of her head.

'Woah. Her presence is insane. Is she a demon?'

This was the only thought on Kuro mind as the assailant finally revealed themselves. The way she carried herself while levitating was elegant, her voice overfilled with self-confidence that could be mistaken for arrogance.

"Sorry lady, I can't let that happen"

Kuro exclaimed in a jokingly manner, his eyes darting around to formulate a plan of escape using the tools the environment provided him. Unfortunately, he did not have enough time to plan and was forced to react, forcing his body to step to the side just in time to narrowly avoid a pressure beam made of blood.

'Too fast'

Kuro exclaimed within his mind in shock, his eyes narrowing at the women who nearly took off his arm.

"What the hell are you doing lady?!"

Kuro yelled out in confusion and anger, deciding his best choice was to run away and find somewhere to hide. So, he did exactly that. His mind unconsciously began too slowly release the restriction between the body and soul, allowing the ambient energy within the very environment to flow into his body.

This small intake was a massive difference in physical performance. Kuro's speed drastically increased as he zoomed through the streets of the city, his sharp turns leaving scorch marks from intense traction.

'Demonic Art #12: First Circle of Hell: Limbo'

The humanoid demonic woman stood floating in the same place, watching as her prey attempted to run. Though her eyes slightly widened in surprise when, for a split second, she sensed an overwhelming surge of soul energy. Purer energy which filtered directly from the individual soul.

"He's a soul class. I need to hurry and erase him before he causes me problems in the future."

The demonic woman exclaimed in a tone of subtle distress. Her dress swaying with the wind that conveniently began to stir as she lifted her right arm up a few inches.

Meanwhile...

Kuro eventually came to a stop with a skid. His breath was heavy, and he slightly kneeled over to regain his lost stamina. The flicker of his golden eyes scanned the area in quick succession, confirming that the woman was nowhere in sight, though a bad feeling lingered in the back of his mind. A pending sense of doom.

Then like a beat of a drum, iron bars began protruding from the many buildings around him and even from the ground. Unfortunately, Kuro was a little too slow to react and was trapped in an Iron clad prison. A thin sheet of darkness then began to drape over the makeshift prison, plunging Kuro's vision into darkness.

"Welcome to hell"

A quick flash of brilliant light white filled Kuro's vision, and he found himself staring at a pitch-black void. An unnerving feeling settled in Kuro's stomach; it was if the void was staring back and awating an answer.

"Where am I?"

Kuro asked aloud to no one in particular, noticing his body was feeling functional which urged him to sit up and scan his surroundings. To his surprise, he was surrounded by a campfire with a few people sitting around enjoying a meal that seemed to have been hunted for.

"Limbo"

An elderly man responded with a tone that longed for something more yet it was simply out of his reach. This urged Kuro to turn his head towards the elderly man, a confused expression on his face.

"Limbo? as in one of the places in afterlife?"

Kuro asked in a slight panicked tone which caused the ground to tremble in response. This urged the people to quickly clear up the misunderstanding in urgency.

"Yeah, but you're not dead. It appears someone has forced your entire being here improperly. Though it seems to be temporary, this could leave lasting damages to the realm. What are you?"

This time a younger man stepped forward, his face chiseled and his body muscularly lean. His voice was gut wrenching deep and a bit rough, filled with years of grief and passion.

"My name is Kuro Nasaki. I picked up some book, and it merged with me, a woman suddenly tried to kill me and sent me here."

Kuro explained in a very short summary that earned a subtle sweat drop from the group. Though the mention of a book had piqued the elderly man's curiosity.

"Kuro. Did this book happen to have an ultrarealistic cover of a flower and big empty pages?"

The elderly man asked to which Kuro nodded, earning a collective gasp from the group much to Kuro's confusion.

"You know about the book? did you use it before?"

Kuro asked to which the elderly man shook his head back and forth, indicating that Kuro was on his own. This made Kuro sigh in slight disappointment, though his eyes shot towards the elderly man who coughed into his hand.

"Unfortunately, I have not used the book, but I do know a bit about it. You are a soul class. An individual who has achieved control over soul magic, a pure more potent version of magic energy. This specific book is only spoken in myths. It has the power to alter the very state of reality"

The elderly man proclaimed in a dramatic tone though in the end, he chuckled and broke the tense silence between them. Kuro on the other hand, sat in complete silence to process the information he was just told.

"So... this is my story"

Kuro explained with a smile so wide it could bring light to even the depths of the void. His dream was nearly in his reach. it was just a bit beyond his grasp.
