Moonlight leaked through the cracks of a small, wet concrete cell that stank of mold and old blood.
Veronica Stay knelt on the cold floor. Her long peach-orange hair hung in dirty strands, hiding the tears that slipped down her light-caramel cheeks. Her hands clutched the frayed hem of her tattered black shirt.
"Haha..guess you were right after all, Father," she whispered, the laugh empty and broken. "Weakness has no right to exist in a place where strength is the norm."
Those had been the last words he spoke to her before casting her out of the Truestar Kingdom.
She deserved it. No one else in her family would have been stupid enough to get captured by goblins. Pitiful.
A sudden screech froze her in place. Her silver eyes snapped open.
This was what she was about to become..a breeding dog.
Footsteps approached, slow and deliberate. The Goblin still hadn't spoken. Veronica scrambled backward until her shoulders hit the wall.
