There was a soft rain the next morning. It wasn't heavy but I was still totally drenched by the time I made it back to the dorm.
I didn't meet Charlotte in the room which I was grateful for. I had a lot on my mind, and she'd ask where I was.
A soft knock came on the door as I was putting my uniform on. The door was pushed open before I could answer. It was Evie.
"Supernova," she said with a smile, leaning against the door frame. "I wanted to say 'hi' this morning."
The grin on my face was automatic. "You know you can just call me my name."
"I really don't like it, hence the new one." She crossed over to where I stood. "Let me help you."
With her slender fingers she worked on the button of my shirt, then started to tuck it into my skirt when she was done. She teased the sides of my waist.
"I saw you coming back this morning," she said in a low voice. "Went to see Ms. Duval I see…"
I couldn't deny it. "I was looking for Isadora, went to check in with her. She's my guardian."
