Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Surveillance

As memories of the past flooded her mind, Mika Summers's pretty face turned deathly pale.

She walked over to the sofa, wrapped her arms around herself, and sank to the floor, feeling utterly weak and powerless.

DING DONG… DING DONG…

Just then, the doorbell rang.

She looked up, her brow furrowed slightly.

Normally, no one ever came to her place.

Because besides Tristan Grayson, no one knew she lived here.

Not even his parents knew.

'So, who could it be now?'

'Could it be Tristan Grayson?'

At the thought, she let out a scornful laugh.

'Anyone might show up, but never Tristan Grayson.'

He hadn't visited once in their three years of marriage. Why would he come now that they were divorced?

She casually wiped away her tears, stood up, and went to answer the door.

When she opened the door, a strange man stood there.

The man was dressed in a black suit and looked like a gangster, which couldn't help but startle her.

"May I ask who you are?" she asked cautiously, her voice trembling.

The man didn't answer her question. Instead, he asked her directly in a cold voice, "Are you Miss Mika Summers?"

"Yes, I am. Can I help you?"

"My name is Sheldon Rhodes. I work for Young Master Grayson. He said that to prevent Miss Mika Summers from taking the check and running, he sent me to monitor you until ten days have passed."

Mika Summers's expression instantly turned cold. "And?"

"So, starting today, I'll be living with you, Miss Summers."

Hearing Sheldon Rhodes's words, she suppressed the rage and grievance in her heart and forced a smile. "Are you finished?"

"I am."

"Good. Please take one step back."

"Yes."

Sheldon Rhodes responded sharply and took a step back.

Mika Summers smiled, made an "OK" gesture, then reached out and slammed the door shut.

Sheldon Rhodes was left standing outside, utterly dumbfounded.

After a few seconds of stunned silence, he realized the gravity of the situation and began pounding on the door. "Miss Mika Summers, please cooperate with me. It's only for ten days."

"This is my house now. The deed is in my name. No one who works for Tristan Grayson has the right to set foot in here!" Mika Summers, her face pale and fists clenched, shouted furiously before turning and storming back to her bedroom, ignoring the pounding on the door.

Back in her bedroom, her tears began to fall uncontrollably again.

'In his eyes, am I just someone who loves money?'

'Am I so untrustworthy that he had to send someone to watch me?'

Inside the hospital room, Tristan Grayson looked at the person sleeping soundly on the bed, then stepped out to answer his phone.

Listening to the voice on the phone, he frowned in anger. "Is that really what she said?"

"Yes. Young Master, what should I do now? Am I still supposed to live with Miss Mika Summers?"

"She's not wrong. Just find a hotel nearby to stay in."

"Yes, Young Master!"

Tristan Grayson hung up the phone. As he turned to go back into the hospital room, he saw a woman standing in the doorway.

The woman was leaning against the doorframe, looking at him with a tender expression.

The coldness on his face vanished. He smiled gently at her, walked over quickly, and bent down to lift her into his arms. "Why did you get out of bed?"

"I can't sleep when you're not here," the woman whispered, leaning against his chest.

"Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere." As he spoke, Tristan Grayson laid her back on the bed, tucked her in, and planted a soft kiss on her forehead. "Go to sleep," he said gently. "I'll stay right here and watch over you."

"Tristan, if I'm not awake by eight tomorrow morning, remember to wake me up."
