Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Sleeping Together

She tossed her phone aside and lay down on the sofa. The thought that their relationship would be completely over in just ten days gave her a splitting headache.

It felt like a heavy weight was crushing her chest, making it hard to breathe.

A bitter smile touched her lips. She really was pathetic. He treated her so badly—one could even say cruelly—yet she still couldn't bear to let him go.

'Mika Summers, snap out of it, will you? You and Tristan Grayson are from two completely different worlds. You have to leave him, leave him for good. Only by leaving him can you live like a human being again.'

A little past one in the morning, inside a VIP room at Vespera Bar, sat three men and one woman.

One man and the woman were already cuddled together, fast asleep, while another man just kept pouring drinks and knocking them back, over and over again.

That man was Tristan Grayson, and he had been sitting there drinking for two hours straight.

Aiden Avery glanced at the couple drooling in their sleep beside him and finally lost his patience. He strode over, snatched the glass from Tristan's hand, and said angrily, "That's enough, Tristan. Stop drinking."

Tristan Grayson looked up, staring at him, and asked coldly, "There's really no other way?"

"Tristan, you know Maggie's illness is already terminal. Even if she has the brain surgery, and even if it's a complete success, she still won't live more than three months."

"I don't care!" Tristan's eyes were bloodshot as he roared, "I want her alive, even if it's only for three months!"

"Tristan, stop being so childish, will you? The success rate for a surgery like this is only three percent!" Aiden's patience had completely run out. 'At this rate, Tristan is going to drive me insane.'

The argument woke up Cassian Jennings, who was sleeping nearby. He rubbed his eyes and said, "Tristan, just accept reality."

Tristan Grayson's expression turned frigid. Without another word, he left the room.

Cassian Jennings was a bit startled by Tristan's strange behavior. Worried, he nudged Aiden Avery. "He's not going to cause any trouble like this, is he?"

"He'll have to face reality sooner or later. Hurry up and call Jensen to pick Tristan up."

"Okay."

————

Tristan Grayson sat in the car, his expression dark, pinching the bridge of his nose.

Jensen asked worriedly, "Sir, where are we going now? Home?"

'Where can I go? Home is a mess because of Grandma's illness, so I can't go back there. The hospital? I'm too drunk for that. It feels like I have nowhere to go.' As he looked up, his gaze fell on the empty seat beside him, and he suddenly thought of that woman.

"To Regalia Fields."

「Half an hour later.」

Tristan Grayson arrived at Mika Summers's home.

The moment Mika Summers opened the door, she froze, looking at the man standing in the doorway.

'It felt like a dream. In their three years of marriage, she had imagined this exact scene countless times—fantasized that one day, he would come home to her.'

Tristan Grayson pushed past her and walked in. Acting like he owned the place, he flopped unceremoniously onto the sofa.

Mika snapped out of her daze when she saw Tristan Grayson making himself completely at home. "What are you doing here?" she asked, her voice tinged with anger.

"To sleep," Tristan replied coldly.

'To sleep?' Mika was stunned. "Our agreement doesn't include sleeping together," she stated. 'As pathetic as she was for still loving him, she wouldn't let him degrade her like this.'

"Sleep with you? Heh... You're thinking too much."
