After parting ways with Sharon Lockwood, Cecilia Adler went to pick up her child.
She waited at the doorway for about five minutes before the child came out of the classroom, holding a big red paper flower. Her eyes lit up when she saw Cecilia. "Mama, I was good today, so the teacher gave me a reward. This is for you."
"That's amazing," Cecilia praised her.
"Mama, there's one more thing. We have a singing competition tomorrow, and the teacher said we have to wear performance costumes and makeup, you know, like the auntie next door does with her eyebrows and eyes."
"I can handle the makeup, but what kind of performance costume do you need?"
The child spent a long time describing it, and Cecilia finally got the gist: it had to be bright red, with a skirt that flared out like a flower. 'How am I supposed to make that in one night?' "Why didn't you tell me sooner?"
"I did tell you about the singing competition."
