Three figures were resting beneath towering trees. One of them—a burly man carrying twin blades—was speaking into his combat communicator.
"Wei'er, what did you say?" Li Yao's expression sharpened. "This year's life-and-death trial for your training camp is on the Australian mainland? Your Uncle Wang, Uncle Li, and I are already here training. When you arrive, come straight to us."
"What?" Li Wei's excited voice rang out. "Dad, you're already on the Australian mainland? That's great! With you and Uncle Wang around, I won't have to worry about anything during this trial!"
Several kilometers above a vast lake on the Australian mainland.
Jiang Yan stood suspended in midair, calm and steady. Below him, Luo Feng hovered atop a flying shield.
"Not here."
Jiang Yan glanced down at the lake and shook his head.
The body of water was immense, but its surface was clear—no fog, no scattered islets, nothing resembling Kirishima.
"Brother Jiang," Luo Feng said as he unfolded the map, "aside from this lake, there are three other major water regions nearby. Each of them has several islands. We can check those next."
He pointed out three marked locations.
Jiang Yan studied them briefly, then nodded. "That's our best option."
With his current speed—the fastest on Earth—scouting these areas would take very little time.
"Let's start with the closest one."
With that, Jiang Yan accelerated, carrying Luo Feng with him.
Moments later, they arrived above the first lake.
"Still not it."
Jiang Yan shook his head again.
The water below was an eerie dark green, shrouded in drifting toxic miasma.
"Brother Jiang," Luo Feng said in a low voice, his guard rising, "there's a massive presence beneath the lake."
Jiang Yan nodded. As spiritual masters, both of them had already sensed it clearly.
"You move back," Jiang Yan said calmly, eyes narrowing. "It's coming."
Luo Feng's expression changed. Without hesitation, he retreated more than a kilometer, controlling his shield with spiritual force.
A king-level monster was far beyond what he could currently handle.
BOOM!
A colossal gray shadow erupted from beneath the lake. A towering column of filthy water shot skyward, carrying shattered rock with it.
It was a king-level Ironclad Earth Dragon Lizard.
Its nearly hundred-meter-tall body was covered in dark-gray scales, each jagged and thick, reflecting cold metallic light as if forged from steel. Its massive tail, lined with bone spurs, tore through the air with a shrill howl.
Its triangular head bore no eyes—only two rows of exposed fangs dripping dark-green corrosive saliva that pitted the water below. Three pairs of fan-shaped bone blades spread from its neck like gigantic scythes.
Despite its bulk, it vaulted into the air with terrifying speed.
ROAR!
Amid the deafening roar, its forelimbs slammed forward. Wind blades tore through the air, slicing straight toward Jiang Yan.
From a distance, Luo Feng broke out in a cold sweat.
This was a king-level monster.
Even the sheer pressure carried in its roar was suffocating.
"Hmph. Seeking death."
Jiang Yan snorted softly.
Within his dantian, seven thunder-star cores surged violently, unleashing torrents of lightning that flooded his body.
He raised his spear and thrust.
BOOM!
A burst of blood exploded in midair.
Planetary-level seventh-rank power erupted without restraint. The spear tip tore effortlessly through the monster's scales, obliterating its head in a single strike.
The roar cut off instantly.
The colossal body froze for a heartbeat before crashing back into the lake, sending waves surging outward and flattening the surrounding forest.
"A king-level monster comparable to a third-rank planetary powerhouse…" Jiang Yan said calmly as he flicked the spear. Blood vanished from the tip. "So this is all it amounts to."
Luo Feng stared, stunned.
A king-level monster—killed in one strike.
For a moment, he almost felt as though he could have done the same.
"Let's go," Jiang Yan said, his voice snapping Luo Feng back to reality. "On to the next location."
Luo Feng glanced reluctantly at the corpse below. "Brother Jiang, we're not collecting any materials?"
King-level monster materials were worth over a hundred billion—and invaluable for research.
"Finding Kirishima matters more," Jiang Yan replied evenly.
Compared to what awaited them there, a king-level corpse was insignificant.
"…Understood."
Luo Feng withdrew his gaze and followed.
When they arrived above the third water region marked on the map, Jiang Yan's eyes lit up.
"This is it."
The lake stretched for hundreds of miles, its surface blanketed by thick, rolling fog.
Even before seeing the central island, Jiang Yan was certain.
"Let's head toward the center," he said, glancing at Luo Feng. "Stay alert. There are plenty of monsters in this lake."
"I understand." Luo Feng nodded.
As they advanced, the fog thickened, visibility dropping sharply. Fortunately, as spiritual masters, sight was unnecessary.
The absence of attacks only reinforced Jiang Yan's confidence—his planetary seventh-rank aura was enough to deter most aquatic beasts.
Soon, they arrived at the island at the center of the lake.
It was deathly silent.
"Brother Jiang…" Luo Feng swallowed. "This place feels wrong."
No beasts. No birds. Not even the sound of wind.
"This is normal for Kirishima," Jiang Yan replied lightly, clearly in high spirits. He scanned the surroundings, then smiled. "Come. I'll take you to collect a few things first."
