Chapter 31: Boss, Are You Working for Law Enforcement?

The rain grew heavier, and the clearing in the back hills had turned into a muddy mess. Edward and Jason's battle entered a critical phase.

Jason's machete chopped down again. Edward dodged while Ebony and Ivory fired continuously. Silver bullets streaked through the rainy night, each imbued with the power of Purification.

"BANG BANG BANG!"

The bullets precisely hit Jason's chest, and the power of Purification caused white smoke to rise from the immortal killer's body. Jason grunted, staggering back a few steps.

"How's that, big guy?" Edward taunted, reloading his guns. "That's the power of Purification—specifically designed to counter evil entities like you."

Jason didn't reply, only brandished his machete furiously. Beneath his mask, his eyes burned with an even more violent killing intent.

Edward suddenly remembered something and pulled two pure silver crosses from his system space: "Try these!"

He tossed the crosses toward Jason; the silver holy relics gleamed in the air. Jason instinctively raised his machete to block, and when the crosses touched his body, they hissed like a hot iron on raw flesh.

But the effect wasn't as strong as Edward had expected. Jason only paused slightly before continuing his attack.

"Tsk, seems like pure silver crosses have limited effect on your type of monster." Edward nodded thoughtfully. "Purification's still more reliable."

Jason charged again, this time faster, his machete whistling through the air, heading straight for Edward's head. Edward leaped backward, but Jason pursued relentlessly, the blade almost grazing his nose.

"Telekinesis!"

An invisible force erupted, pushing Jason backward several yards, but he quickly regained his footing. This killer's strength and endurance far surpassed that of any normal person.

Edward frowned. Although Purification could injure Jason, he needed a more direct method to completely take him down.

Just then, a flaw appeared in Jason's attack—he swung his machete too hard, his center of gravity tilting forward. Edward, quick as lightning, instantly rushed forward.

"Now!"

Edward grabbed Jason's head, his fingers tightly gripping the tattered hockey mask.

"Purification, full power!"

A powerful holy light erupted from Edward's palm, directly pouring into Jason's head. This wasn't an ordinary Purification attack, but a full-power release at point-blank range.

Jason let out an earth-shattering scream, a sound mixed with rage, pain, and defiance. His body began to tremble violently, and faint white flames could be seen burning beneath his mask.

"Let it end this way, Jason," Edward said calmly.

The power of Purification lasted for a full ten seconds. When the light dissipated, the immortal killer who had terrorized Crystal Lake for decades finally fell. Jason's body crashed heavily into the mud, no longer moving.

Edward breathed a sigh of relief but didn't lower his guard. He knew that for an entity like Jason, death might only be temporary.

Edward used Telekinesis to lift Jason's heavy body, raising him above the lake's surface.

"Back where you belong."

Jason's body was slammed deep into the center of the lake, causing a massive splash. Edward continued to suppress him with Telekinesis, ensuring he sank to the bottom, then firmly pinned him down with mud and rocks from the lakebed.

After all this, Edward finally relaxed. The rain gradually subsided, and a noisy commotion came from the direction of the camp.

Edward straightened his clothes, put away his pistols, and casually walked back toward the camp.

In the mess hall, over thirty students were still huddled together, every face etched with fear. When Edward pushed the door open, everyone looked at him nervously.

"Edward!" Carrie was the first to rush over. "Are you okay?"

"Just took a walk," Edward said casually. "Oh, by the way, I ran into this big dude in the back hills wearing a hockey mask and carrying a machete."

The mess hall instantly fell silent, everyone's eyes wide.

"You mean... you met the killer Jason?" a senior asked, his voice shaking.

"If there wasn't anyone else back there, yeah, must've been him. We hung out all night." Edward nodded, his tone as light as if he were talking about the weather. "He should be back in the lake sleeping now. You guys don't need to worry—there shouldn't be any more trouble tonight."

The students exchanged glances, unsure whether to believe what Edward was saying.

At dawn, someone's phone finally got signal. Soon, the police arrived at the camp. When they saw the horrific scene in the counselor cabin, everyone gasped.

The police conducted a brief inquiry with the students, but most couldn't provide much useful information. Only Edward described his "encounter" with Jason in detail, though he portrayed the battle more like a casual meeting.

"You're saying you just... talked with this Jason all night?" The cop looked at him skeptically.

"Pretty much." Edward shrugged. "He's not much of a talker, but I think he's not bad at heart—just kinda lonely. Now he's back in the lake. He shouldn't come out again for a while."

The police figured the kid must have been traumatized and was hallucinating. After all, how could an ordinary high school student peacefully hang out with the legendary killer?

Nevertheless, the summer camp couldn't continue. The students were arranged to return home early.

On the school bus back, Carrie sat beside Edward, her face full of guilt.

"I'm sorry, Edward," she whispered. "I couldn't help at all last night. I just hid in the mess hall."

"It's fine." Edward turned his head and gave her a gentle smile. "This kind of thing isn't something you can handle yet. Your telekinesis still needs time to develop. When you get stronger, we'll fight side by side."

Carrie's face flushed slightly, and she nodded firmly.

Just then, a familiar figure appeared in the bus window's reflection. Alan's face emerged from the glass.

"Edward, something happened at home," Alan said concisely. "The nanny last night was a cultist, and Lily had a run-in with those people."

Edward's expression instantly turned serious. He lowered his voice and asked, "Lily should be able to handle it, right?"

"She's fine, but..." Alan paused. "She might have gone a bit overboard. You'd better get back and check as soon as possible."

Edward nodded, then turned to Carrie: "I need to deal with some family stuff first. I'll take you home, then I gotta head back."

Although Carrie was a little disappointed, she still nodded obediently. She vaguely sensed that Edward always had many secrets she didn't know about, but she chose to trust him, waiting for the day she could truly help him.

The school bus stopped in the city. Edward walked Carrie off the bus, and after watching her go inside her house, he turned to head toward his own place with peace of mind.
