Alice's POV
Richard Hale was buried three days later. The funeral was massive, full of people who pretended to care. Business partners, politicians, celebrities. All of them saying nice things about a man who'd been a criminal.
I'm very sure some of them were either aware or even part of his acts, and they're all here with fake smiles.
I stood next to Bryan through all of it. He didn't cry. Didn't speak. Just stood there like a statue while people shook his hand and offered condolences.
One of Richard's old business partners, maybe some slick real estate guy with too-white teeth, I guess clapped Bryan on the shoulder a little too hard. "Your father was a titan, son. A real visionary. The world won't see his like again."
Bryan gave him the barest nod. The man hesitated, waiting for more, then drifted away when nothing came.
Victoria came to the funeral. She stayed in the back, away from everyone. When it was over, she approached Bryan.
