Chapter 1 - (1) Pyrrhic Victory

Smoke clouded the once brightly lit sky and explosions mingled with the screams of wounded soldiers.

"Fight in his name, soldiers of Christ! Do not let these abominations reach the holy city!"

A wounded priest surrounded by the bodies of his comrades and demons, covered in now punctured but usuable set of heavy segmented armour, screamed profanities at the approaching monsters while trying his best to motivate his own troops.

The proud flag of his Regiment, The Divine Blades, now riddled with holes and scorched by hellish flame still fluttered in the wind, firmly planted inside a body of a grotesque demon, was now upholding the body of this priest.

'Only couple of us left now, these damned knights are running late! We can't hold this line much longer... but we must for if we fail the arch enemy shall triumph!'

A large bloodied hammer, carried out its holy duty as it thunderously smacked and cracked the skull of another demon, sending it to hell.

Another set of explosions ringed out from the trenches located behind the priest, smoke clouded his vision once more as bullets halted the demonic advance, for a brief moment, yet more took their place.

Burning with the sickening flames of hell, covering their entire bodies, the creatures with twisted smiles were charging his line. One unlucky fellow got his skull pierced by a wicked blade. Only for his head to be separated from its body and landing inside a giant mouth that snacked on his corspe.

"Juggernout approaching! Soldiers of God, show them his uncompromising fury!"

A louder than before explosion happened and a massive cannonball hit the large monsters chest, caving it and pushing it back, causing demon to vomit large quantities of blood and undigested body parts.

Another gunpowder discharge filled the air as more heavy artillery pounded this Unholy beast, turning it into minced meat.

"None may match the works of his faithful subjects! If hell is overpopulated, may the ones we send back spread the word of our righteous fury! Fight as one brothers! Fight and die in his name for only then true salvation shall be earned!" Blood trickled down his cheek as the dented helmet punctured his head.

With blury vision he saw the approaching demons collapse as a flank charge of heavily armoured knights with two handed swords finally arrived.

"Heh you are late, sisters." The priest seeing his duty done, let go of the standard and collapsed. Last thing he saw was the demonic creatures exploding upon contact with holy energy as a large Knight swung his sword while approaching him.

"Rest now, child of faith. Your duty in this world is complete." The voice softly said in a dual voice. He gently caught the priests falling body, and for split second the priest could swear that this knight had a pair of luminous wings on his back...

////////////////////

Sitting in ordinary chairs an un ordinary number of creatures radiating divine power sat in a circle, all looking intently at one empty chair.

Time passed but eventually an elderly man appeared. Breathing heavily he scanned the room. His once pristine white were soaked in blood, blood that seemed to move up, covering more of his fabric. His gaze heavy and ancient.

"I am very busy, as you all know my son finally betrayed me and now my children are paying the price. So be swift about it." God of Earth gravely spoke.

"It seems this is connected to what is happening in our worlds too, o elder one. This is some sort of conspiracy, engineered by the evil beings, the malevolent ones." A Goddess with incredible figure spoke.

"We do know that your war had ended, with your subjects triumphant over the arch enemy, as such we boldly request your aid." Another minor God spoke.

Taking a long but delayed heavy breath, the tired god rubbed his forehead.

"My most fanatical child had already been collected by Michael and will be sent to the most dire realm. Whatever help I can spare, I will offer it to the other worlds too but only after Earth stabilises itself." The last remaining elder God said and vanished.

All the tension present in this room suddenly vanished.

"Fuck, the God of Earth is too scary!"

"Tell me about it, I feel like I can breath now."

"Well at least he agreed to help us for once. Seems like your world will receive his champion, Euphoria."

"I need to give him a proper welcome." The Goddess with heavenly body nodded as she smiled and vanished from this meeting.

"You have done more than we could ask of you, yet your job is not yet done. Go forth his chosen one and spread the word of his glory." An angel clad in golden armour with his golden, flowing hair had said.

Angels face was full of sorrow as the mighty but scarred soul it carried had been subjected to eternal pilgrimage for the sin it committed in past.

"Our Creator is not here so allow me to offer you a small boon. For years of faithful service and laying your life low to ensure our victory, this is a reward I grant you with all my authority." Angels hand glowed with brilliant light as it flowed into the soul it carried.

"May you find peace in your next life and I pray that Euphoria is more forgiving than our Lord."

Then Michael lowered the priests soul into the river Styx, where souls would travel to afterlife.

Before the priests soul could enter the promised land, a gentle glowing hand submerged itself into the river of souls and scooped out his essence.

"I thank you for this gift and with adherence to our oath I promise a fair start to this grand soul." Words echoed throughout his unconscious being as colours began flooding back into his vision, with pain spreading throughout his body, with renewed vigour, the priest opened his eyes once more.
