Humanity should've collapsed.

Because around the same time, people began to Awaken.
The System chose them... randomly, cruelly, mysteriously.
A light would erupt inside someone's chest, a symbol forming on their skin, and suddenly they had powers: fire, lightning, telekinesis, healing, elemental control, weapon conjuring… impossible things.
